5. PhD Programs in passive Direct Air Capture

Summary of PhD Positions:

The work aims at developing a novel “passive” DAC system. We will use cheap alkaline by-products that passively react with carbon dioxide in the air to form stable carbonates, e.g. CaCO3. Alkaline by-products from industry could likely be employed as raw materials in the process, which would increase circularity and integration of different industrial sectors.

A significant fraction of such materials is generated globally as well as in Sweden, primarily from the steel and mining industry. The use of such cheap materials in combination with a system which does not need to actively treat enormous amounts of air directly in fans and blowers, could result in a much lower CO2-capture cost compared to normal systems, and hence play a significant role in a future scenario where massive Negative emissions will be needed.

7. PhD Programs in LCA of vehicle and electricity systems interaction

Summary of PhD Positions:

You will take part in a project that will explore the interaction between vehicles and external electricity systems, commonly referred to as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) or more broadly, vehicle-to-x (V2X), and assess how this interaction leads to shift in the environmental impact of these interconncected systems. This includes applying life cycle assessment (LCA) and investigating feasible technical design solutions with focus on power electronics and batteries.
