1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Our research group has developed a number of approaches for increasing the performance of applications through parallelisation. Building on the success of the HELIX automatic parallelising compiler, and the more recent Janus binary parallelisation framework, we seek to develop compiler analyses and transformations within the LLVM toolset to extract parallelism for future microprocessors. We wish to identify opportunities for task-level parallelism during compilation, extracting parallelism for the most beneficial parts of the code, and dealing with cross-task data dependences via speculation or synchronisation. The successful candidate will develop new analyses and transformations that can realise this system, working closely with a team of PostDocs and PhD students, as well as project partner, Arm.

13. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

T cells drive immune activation and promote clearance of infections and cancer. However, their function can provoke autoimmune and allergic inflammation. The immune system therefore employs a variety of suppressive mechanisms, collectively known as immunoregulatory mechanisms, to restrain excessive T cell activation and prevent autoimmune and allergic inflammation. However, such suppressive mechanisms also powerfully inhibit anti-tumour immunity to drive deleterious immunosuppression in cancer. The laboratory utilises mouse genetics, cellular immunology and molecular biology to understand molecular mechanisms of immunity and immune suppression in cancer and inflammation.

Mammalian mitochondria contain several copies of their own genome (mtDNA) which encodes 13 essential subunits of the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system. Pathogenic variants in the mitochondrial genome can result in mitochondrial diseases, which are a major group of inherited conditions affecting ~1 in 8,000 humans. These disorders are currently incurable and effectively untreatable, with heterogeneous penetrance, presentation and prognosis. This project aims at addressing the lack of effective treatment for these disorders.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postholder will work within a programme focussed on understanding mitochondrial dynamics and membrane contact sites as key regulators of cell fate decisions. Mitochondria form a dynamic and connected network, which is constantly remodelled by cycles of membrane fission and fusion.
