The goal of this project is to investigate the mechanical behaviour of metal alloys with architected microstructure produced using additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Beyond manufacturing of parts with complex geometry, AM is inspiring new designs of materials with spatially varying microstructure. These unique microstructures are attainable by tuning the AM process parameters site-specifically. Summary of PhD Positions:

Checkpoint inhibitors targeting inhibitory molecules on T cells (PD1, CTLA4) to reinvigorate tumour killing, have had great clinical success in some cancers but not others, and even in those cancers with good responses, 60-80% of patients fail to respond. Myeloid cells are a major component of the tumour microenvironment, and can be either pro- or anti-tumourogenic. 30. PhD Programs in Regulation of human tRNA metabolism during stress and diseases

Summary of PhD Positions:

Human cells are constantly exposed to environmental stress. We have evolved elaborate mechanisms to mount appropriate response to adapt to the stress. The transcriptional branch of the stress response has been intensely investigated focussing primarily on protein-coding genes. Our current work has identified that tRNA synthesis is highly regulated during stress. How stress affects RNA Polymerase III that transcribes tRNA remains unknown We have conducted genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screen and identified several trans-regulators of this process. The project will investigate how these trans-regulators communicate with stress-signalling pathway and how the pathway is modified in cancer and neurodegeneration with the hope of identifying therapeutics.

Summary of PhD Positions:

The rapid development of deep learning techniques in recent years enables the increasing utilisation of computer-aided detection (CAD) tools in assisting radiologists with their workflows and clinical diagnosis. In contrast to human medicine, the use of CAD and AI with veterinary studies is minimal and much less explored with its power yet to be exploited. The aim of the project is firstly to develop an AI-based tool to automatically detect, and segment anatomical body areas included in an animal CT scans. Secondly to further develop the tool to allow triage of the clinical cases based on AI recognition of specific imaging features. This project will also involve curation for the clinical and imaging data along with application and development of new techniques for pattern recognition (deep learning), image synthesis and domain adaptation.
