1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Gentles lab at Stanford University has postdoc positions available for several projects in analyzing genomic and proteomic data in cancer using systems biology approaches. Our works spans multiple cancer types, using a combination of computational and experimental methods to address questions in tumor biology with a particular interest in the content and organization of the tumor microenvironment, and its influence on patient outcomes and therapy response. As one example, we are interested in understanding immunotherapy response in a rare cancer type called clear cell ovarian cancer. We are generating scRNA-seq, CODEX, and other data on clinical samples with known therapy responses. The aim is to use network modeling to identify critical nodes or edges that can be targeted to modulate relevant pathways in mouse models, and feed these results back into the modeling in an iterative process.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Our goal is to identify effective approaches for case detection and prevention of tuberculosis in high burden populations, including children in tuberculosis-endemic communities and people residing in prisons and other correctional facilities. Our ongoing studies in Brazil and South Africa are evaluating novel diagnostic approaches, providing unique opportunities to leverage new data for testing innovative approaches to prevent tuberculosis. The postdoctoral fellow will leverage these primary data, together with large surveillance datasets, to develop and apply mathematical models to investigate the potential impact of new diagnostic and prevention strategies on tuberculosis incidence and outcomes. In addition to these projects, the fellow will have the freedom and support to explore other research interests related to tuberculosis or other infectious diseases.

3. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are interested in understanding how altered cellular metabolism drives tumorigenesis and identifying metabolic liabilities amenable to therapeutic targeting. Recently, the oncometabolite hypothesis of cellular transformation has emerged as a central mechanism of oncogenesis. According to this concept, excess accumulation of intermediary metabolites such as succinate, 2-hydroxygluterate, and fumarate that result from altered succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) or fumarate hydratase (FH) function, respectively, drive pathogenic epigenetic cellular reprogramming and tumor formation. However, model systems to interrogate the oncometabolite hypothesis and identify therapeutic targets are lacking.
