We seek a postdoctoral research associate to join a multidisciplinary project “Building Shells: Towards a Mechanistic Understanding of Biomineralisation” funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The successful candidate will work alongside the PI, a PhD student, and an international team of collaborators to grow marine calcifying organisms (corals, foraminifera, coccolithophores) under controlled conditions in laboratory and field settings, and measure the response of their physiology to these conditions (respirometry, calcification rates, transcriptomics).
The culture conditions will be designed to examine the pathways of ion transport and processes of crystal growth in biomineralisation, and will push organisms beyond conditions they experience in the wild. The influence of these conditions on the rate of calcification and the activity of genes known to be related to ion transport pathways and mineralisation processes will be of particular interest.

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available within the group of Dr Zahid Padamsey at the Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS). The lab focusses on brain-body interactions, specifically on understanding how diet and metabolism affect the mammalian neocortex. The lab explores these aims using dietary and genetic manipulations in mice, combined with in vivo two-photon calcium imaging, in vivo oxygen and ATP imaging, as well as in vivo whole-cell patch clamp recordings, in the cortex of awake, behaving mice. Wilson Poetry Fellowship is designed to enable practising poets to spend a period as members of the Faculty of English, bringing together the practice of poetry and their academic study. Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Pellegrini Lab is recruiting for a postdoc position (2.5 years) investigating ecosystem responses to altered fire and grazing regimes in global drylands. The research will consist of visiting research sites in North America, Africa, Australia, and South America, measuring plants and soils periodically over two years (e.g., measurements of plant NPP, soil greenhouse gas fluxes, nitrogen mineralization), and performing several biogeochemical measurements in the lab. This will involve travel and lodging in field locations for multiple months each year. The field and lab work will be supported by a full-time technician. Lab analyses include physiological traits of leaves and roots and soil properties and processes (e.g., carbon isotopes, density fractionations, microbial activity).
