Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Over the past decade there has been a significant increase in our experimental capabilities to measure accurately the structure of both simple and complex liquids in diffraction measurements. This position is an opportunity to work on combining ab initio molecular dynamics simulations with Reverse Monte Carlo refinement of diffraction data. The candidate will work with Dr. Pruteanu on creating an integrated software framework incorporating in a coherent fashion state-of-the-art RMC and DFT codes (CASTEP, CP2K, VASP, etc.). You will conduct research aimed at investigating prediction error responses and computation performed by the locus coeruleus in behaving mice. This will involve developing a novel multimodal virtual reality system for presenting and combining sensorimotor mismatch stimuli, and using fibre photometry and electrophysiology to record from the locus coeruleus. You will go on to use electrophysiology and/or widefield imaging, as well as optogenetics to interrogate the contribution of cortical activity to locus coeruleus computation.
