The Integrated Program in Cancer and Data Science (ICADS) at Moffitt serves to train the next generation of leaders in Cancer and Data Science. Over thirty faculty members, who work together at the interface of cancer research and data science, serve as mentors and co-mentors. The program is cross-disciplinary, spanning every Division at Moffitt including: 1) basic science; 2) population science; 3) clinical science; 4) translational science; and 5) quantitative science. Postdoctoral trainees in the program are paired into training teams that design a mentored research project that addresses a critical issue in cancer utilizing data science approaches (e.g., biostatistics, statistical genomics, bioinformatics). 3. Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Biology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Lixin Wan’s group at Moffitt Cancer Center Department of Molecular Oncology. The research in Dr. Wan’s lab is focused on protein post-translational modifications, including ubiquitination, acetylation, methylation, and phosphorylation. We are interested in understanding how these modifications are misregulated in tumor cells, tumor-infiltrating immune cells, and tumor-interacting stroma cells. We are also interested in developing next-generation techniques to characterize these modifications. Our current projects include the multifaceted roles of ITCH in melanoma and the melanoma immune microenvironment, the context-dependent functions of master cell cycle regulator APC/C in breast cancer and ovarian cancer, the crosstalk between tumor cell aneuploidy and innate immunity, and several others.

4. Postdoctoral Position in Molecular drivers of melanoma progression 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Florian A. Karreth, PhD in the Department of Molecular Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. Work in the Karreth lab is focused in the molecular and genetic mechanisms promoting melanoma progression, metastasis, and drug resistance. Several projects are available to characterize newly identified pro-tumorigenic transcription factors and signaling pathways. These projects will involve the characterization of molecular mechanisms responsible for melanoma progression using a variety of cell biological, molecular biological, and biochemical methods. In addition, innovative genetically engineered mouse models will be generated to better understand these novel drivers in the context of spontaneous melanoma development. The ultimate goal is to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities for therapeutic targeting, and novel therapeutic strategies will be tested in vitro and in novel mouse models.

5. Postdoctoral Position in Alternative Splicing in Pancreatic Cancer Metastasis

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Mann lab investigates the genetic and epigenetic regulation of novel tumor suppressors involved in the initiation and progression of pancreatic cancer (PDAC) that we discovered using an in vivo forward genetic screen. We are focused on the regulation of alternative splicing regulated by RBFOX2 during PDAC progression and how to leverage this splicing regulation to predict and prevent recurrent disease and/or metastatic progression. We are looking for an individual excited by inter-disciplinary approaches to investigate PDAC splicing signatures using ex vivo models, mouse models and patient samples with the goal of identifying additional splicing regulators and/or splicing events that may be explored for diagnostic or therapeutic efficacy to better treat cancer patients.

Skin cancer is the most common group of cancers in humans. Whereas melanoma has over 25 FDA-approved therapies, highly lethal high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and Merkel cell carcinoma have but a handful. The Tsai Lab seeks to address these unmet needs. We combine cross-species analysis of UV-driven mouse models of skin cancer with deep interrogation of human tumor samples to develop novel chemoprevention and therapeutic strategies for high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and Merkel cell carcinoma. The PI, Dr. Kenneth Y. Tsai, MD, PhD, is a dermatologist, dermatopathologist, and NIH-funded investigator with extensive experience in mouse models of cancer, molecular biology, and in the diagnosis and research of skin cancer. He Co-Directs the Melanoma & Skin Cancer Center of Excellence, which is committed to the advancement of translational research to improve prevention and therapy of advanced skin cancers. Dr. Thanh Thieu seeks to find a Postdoc Fellow to join the Language and Intelligence Laboratory (LAILab) at the Machine Learning Department at Moffitt.
