1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A recently awarded NIAID grant to the multi-disciplinary team of J. Bryers (UW Bioengineering, mRNA vaccine delivery), D. Koelle (UW Infectious Diseases, T cell Immunology), and J. Taylor (University of Virginia, B cell activation dynamics) seeks to develop an injectable polymer platform to deliver multi-cistronic self-replicating mRNA to immunize against Staphylococcus aureus infections. Biofilm infections of tissue and medical prostheses by this pathogen cause severe morbidity and mortality; thus, preventative vaccination is a major unmet medical need. Our group has identified rational vaccine candidates and protocols to address B cell affinity issues.

9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington has a Postdoctoral Scholar position open to join our research team working on improving our understanding of the methane cycle in past and modern atmospheres. Applicant will develop and utilize box models, linear inverse models, and deep learning models (U-nets, PINNs, …) to represent the methane cycle in a computationally efficient manner. These models will both inform and be trained using global chemistry-climate models. These efficient representations of the methane cycle will ultimately be used to constrain the drivers of variations in atmospheric methane the oxidative capacity of the troposphere using both satellite and isotopologue (δ13C-CH4, δD-CH4, 14CH4, and 14CO) measurements.

13. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Dr. Zin Khaing, a renowned neurobiologist with extensive experience in acute pathophysiology, cellular and systems neurobiology, and behavior analyses of experimental models of brain and spinal cord injury. Spinal cord injury can result in deficits in motor and sensory function, including the ability to empty the bladder voluntarily and the development of neurogenic bladder negatively impairing the quality of life for persons with spinal cord injury. This position is supported by a DoD grant-funded project examining treatment options to optimize bladder health for patients with spinal cord injury. To that end, the group utilize a novel strategy to limit bladder tissue hypertrophy and improve the compliance of the bladder thereby increasing the bladder health and longevity after spinal cord injury. State-of-the-art techniques are used to assess bladder physiology and tissue health in a rodent model of spinal cord injury.

14. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The tropical Pacific is a key area within National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) ocean observing system. Ocean-atmosphere interactions in the tropical Pacific, such those as associated with El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), can lead to atmospheric teleconnections affecting weather and climate around the world. The ocean influences weather and climate primarily through air-sea heat fluxes, with both the radiative and turbulent heat fluxes playing critical roles in the energy and water cycles.

The “Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS)-2020” project (tropicalpacific.org), tasked with reimaging the TPOS, envisioned an integrated system that would be more robust, multifunctional, and that would better serve operational and research needs. Within the integrated system, USVs are now being tested for their ability to address many of the gaps identified by TPOS-2020. Through pilot studies funded by NOAA OAR Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing (GOMO) and NOAA OMAO, NOAA OAR Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) and CICOES partners have overseen multiple Saildrone, Inc. USV (“saildrone”) missions to test the use of USVs within an integrated TPOS.
