In this role, you will work at the Accelerator Technology & Applied Physics (ATAP) Division to primarily conduct accelerator magnet superconductor and associated materials R&D and characterization. In this role, work will be performed within the Superconducting Magnet Program (SMP) as a member of a team of physicists, engineers, technologists, and students. This postdoc will perform both metallographic microscopy and non-destructive image analysis using Machine Learning (ML) models and Python script or equivalent, as well as perform room temperature and cryogenic temperature electrical and mechanical measurements.

This position is in the Whole Building Systems (WBS) department of the Building Technology and Urban Systems (BTUS) division. This position will contribute to studies focused on home electrification and decarbonization. Specific activities will include assessment of low power electrification strategies and grid impacts of home electrification in both single and multifamily residential buildings. Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division of Berkeley Lab has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist to participate in an international working group analyzing deep soil warming experiments across the world. In this exciting role, you will apply mechanistic and machine learning models to study observed effects of warming on soil and ecosystem carbon cycling and the mechanisms shaping the soil response, and to estimate potential soil carbon feedbacks with climate.

The project encourages collaboration with a wide range of scientists, from graduate students to senior researchers, studying soil biogeochemistry under warming, how to best represent these processes in models, and how to use the models to extrapolate in space and time. Although the position is based out of Berkeley Lab, the successful candidate will also work closely with researchers at the Institute for Global Change Biology at the University of Michigan.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In this role, you will develop new mathematical approaches and advanced computational algorithms for multi-conformational imaging from cellular X-ray and electron tomography. This work involves research and development in new hybrid methods that couple model-based methods, optimization, numerical linear algebra, Fourier analysis, and deep-learning to solve inverse problems from noisy, incomplete, and heterogeneous data to obtain state-of-the-art reconstructions. You will work with a collaborative team to obtain sequence data, such as amplicon sequences, isolated genomes, metagenomes and metatranscriptomes, as well as metabolite and biogeochemical data.
