1. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoc will be involved in this project with the aim of better understanding how TOR and SnRK1 are involved in regulating plant growth when C/N balance is disturbed. In previous years we have mapped the signaling networks around these two kinase complexes in relation to C and N availability. Through CRISPR screens we will now explore those networks for interesting new regulators of growth under limiting N supply. Finally, successful events will be selected for an in-depth molecular analysis exploring the function of the individual genes and their relation with plant growth, C/N assimilation, and TOR/SnRK1.

2. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Over the last decade, organoids emerged as an attractive middle ground between 2D cell cultures, which do not fully recapitulate the 3D environment, and animal models, which pose technical and ethical limits. In particular, cerebral organoids are emerging as the next step in patient-derived in vitro models for both neurodevelopmental as well as neurodegenerative diseases. However, cerebral organoids have mostly been based on neuronal cells alone, while evidence increases that the role of non-neuronal types (microglia, astrocytes, endothelial cells) is critical in these conditions. Integration of these cell types will more closely mimic the in vivo cellular environment in health and disease and constitutes the major challenge of this project.

3. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The research team of Prof. Emanuela Pasciuto studies the complex interactions between the immune and nervous systems. We have discovered a population of brain resident T-cells regulating microglia maturation, challenging current dogmas in the field of neuroimmunology. Our main objective is to gain mechanistic insights into the contribution of T cells to brain plasticity and their impact in neurodegenerative, and neurodevelopmental disorders.

4. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are looking for a postdoc candidate interested in using computational methods to investigate how the complex biophysics and morphology of single neurons give rise to the dynamics of neural populations. One question we are particularly excited about is how much these single-neuron mechanisms underlie the remarkable robustness of neural systems. This project will make use of our previously developed machine learning methods and toolbox (e.g., [2-3]), and depending on the selected candidateā€™s interests, can involve further method development. There will be flexibility to customize the project and ample opportunities to collaborate with top experimental partners locally and internationally.

5. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The UMSTI studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control inflammation and immunity. In the frame of the EOS (Excellence of Science) funding programme we have recently initiated the BRIDGE project (Taking IBD Genes from GWAS to Function to Drug Target). BRIDGE brings together scientists from 4 different Belgian universities and 1 US lab with complementary expertise in genomics, immunology, cell biology, and clinical gastroenterology to jointly develop a pipeline to systematically interrogate IBD-relevant functions of GWAS-identified candidate genes relevant to disease activation and recurrence.

6. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The research team of Prof. Mathieu JM Bertrand has a vacancy for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with research experience in autophagy, cell death, and/or inflammation. The successful candidate will be responsible for studying mechanisms of autophagic degradation and its interplay with inflammation and cell death modalities, using cells of human and murine origin and mouse models of inflammatory diseases. This research is part of the iBOF ATLANTIS project (Autophagy in inflammation and inflammatory disorders, from basic insights to experimental therapy). ATLANTIS brings together scientists with complementary expertise in the fields of autophagy, cell death, inflammation, angiogenesis, and drug screening/medicinal chemistry.

7. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The research of Prof. Peter Carmeliet focuses on the development of blood vessels (angiogenesis) and vascular heterogeneity in health and disease, with the ultimate aim to identify novel therapeutic vascular-based strategies. Current anti-angiogenesis therapies (AATs), by targeting the pro-angiogenic factor VEGF, suffer resistance and insufficient efficacy. The Carmeliet lab explores opportunities to overcome these limitations and to improve AAT by focusing on endothelial cell metabolism, endothelial heterogeneity and in particular, endothelial immunity. Recent projects, combining single-cell transcriptomics with bulk multi-omics (transcriptomics, (epi)-genomics, proteomics & metabolomics) revealed novel insights in endothelial cell metabolism and heterogeneity in health and disease.

9. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Vanderhaeghen Lab at the VIB/KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research (http://cbd.sites.vib.be), is seeking a creative postdoctoral scientist to study the human-specific mechanisms of development and function of cortical neurons. Join us to undertake a highly interdisciplinary project focusing on one exciting question: Ā« what makes our brain human? Ā» (Vanderhaeghen and Polleux, Nat. Rev. Neurosci. 2023). We combine cutting-edge approaches such as pluripotent stem cell models of human corticogenesis, human-mouse brain xenotransplantation, mouse transgenesis, in vivo mouse brain imaging, ex vivo human brain analyses.

10. Postdoctoral PositionĀ

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Laboratory for the Research of Neurodegenerative Diseases, headed by prof. Bart De Strooper is a vibrant environment where key issues related to Alzheimerā€™s disease are tackled. We are currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated postdoc to join our multidisciplinary project on the cellular response to Alzheimerā€™s pathology (De Strooper et al, Cell). In this project, we investigate why some people are protected against Alzheimerā€™s Disease despite the presence of amyloid plaques. Understanding why some people are resilient to Alzheimerā€™s disease will help us to identify new drug targets. The candidate will work on the analysis of human spatial transcriptomics data (using the 10x Visium platform), and integrate this with other data, such as high-resolution in situ sequencing data and single-cell RNAseq from multiple projects and models in the lab to prioritize targets for further drug discovery in a collaboration with our spin-off biotech company Muna Therapeutics.
