1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Social support for the real-world introduction of AI in critical infrastructure

Summary of PhD Program:

The social impact of technology on its users has been vastly proved to be enormous since it might pose organizational and social obstacles. Acceptance of new technologies, especially in the energy field, has been recognized as one of the primary barriers to implementing technological innovations. In the context of the ILUSTRE project, we will investigate the impact of IT technology on the energy and water supply domains. The project will focus on two main aspects: 1) the impact on the partner industries’ managers and employees; 2) the impact on the broader society – since AI technology will affect the quality and the features of the services provided to the population. We model these social processes through social networks and predict possible social outcomes of interventions in the networks employing statistics, system dynamics modelling and ABMs.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Knowledge hiding in Virtual Teams

Summary of PhD Program:

Knowledge is a critical asset for organizations and teams constitute a fundamental unit in which knowledge-related processes take place. While organizations desire employees in teams to share their knowledge, team members might also intentionally withhold information and engage in knowledge hiding. This is problematic, for example by undermining innovation and creativity, which is necessary for organizational competitiveness. While an increasing number of teams meet on a virtual basis, we know little about knowledge hiding in virtual teams. This is especially important given that technology has an ambiguous relationship with knowledge hiding.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Explaining Tax Morale with Social Exchange Psychology

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD project will investigate why people pay taxes. Tax compliance and tax morale – the intrinsic motivation to pay taxes – receive increasing attention from scholars and tax administrations. Research has identified various economic and socio-psychological determinants of tax compliance, such as audit probability, fine levels, social norms, or fairness considerations. Importantly, empirical studies of tax compliance do not reveal consistent effects, neither of economic factors nor of socio-psychological factors. To better understand these puzzling findings, an overarching approach is needed to determine when these factors influence tax behavior and when their influence is suppressed.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in brokerage behavior

Summary of PhD Program:

We seek to address the following guiding question: How do organizations in CSPs translate environmental issues, share their translations, and foster collective action? This research project aims to unpack two-layered mechanisms – i) how organizations independently translate complex environmental issues into organizational problems and ii) how organizations collectively translate the issues by sharing interpretations and building joint cognitive schemata.

We highlight the role of brokerage behavior facilitating coordination of distinct translations, resource exchange and resolution. The study is expected to reveal cognitive structure of translation by participating CSP members throughout collaborative process and identify various interaction patterns facilitated by brokers in CSPs. Broadly, our project contributes to addressing blind spots of interorganizational network research and collective action on sustainability.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Human Resource Studies

Summary of PhD Program:

With the growing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity surrounding businesses today, and the increasing availability of data, leveraging data is key to creating competitive advantage for organizations. Evidence-based Management (EBMgt), which is a decision-making strategy that involves using the best available evidence for management decisions, is being considered a timely approach for practitioner to use data to improve organizational outcomes.

Despite claims that EBMgt can promote positive behaviors like employee voice and knowledge sharing, and will contribute to a positive learning environment, there is little empirical evidence about the impact of managers’ EBMgt on employees’ behaviors and employee, team, and organizational outcomes. Thus, this project focuses on examining employees’ evaluations of their managers’ EBMgt (e.g., fairness), employees’ reaction to their managers’ EBMgt (e.g., voice, proactive behaviour), and the impact of these employee evaluations and reactions on individual and team outcomes.
