4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Parameter identification for soil-tool interaction simulation

The focus of this PhD project is the development, implementation and validation of an adequate automated parameterization algorithm for DEM-based soil simulation and soil-tool interaction. For this purpose, different soil mechanics laboratory tests will be investigated and analyzed with respect to their suitability for the parameterization of the soil-tool interaction, also for different physical contact laws. Based on this, different nonlinear optimization approaches will be implemented and analyzed with respect to accuracy, stability and performance. 5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Information Representation and Management of Product Instances
Summary of PhD Program:
We offer a full-time position for a doctoral researcher/PhD student for the DFG Collaborative Research Center SFB 1574 – Circular Factory concerning the subproject Information Representation and Management of Product Instances (beginning 01.04.2024). For each individual physical object instance (objects can be parts, assemblies or complete products) within the Circular Factory, it is necessary to describe all its quality relevant attributes together with uncertainties and mutual dependencies. For this purpose, parametrized probability distribution models with universal approximation capabilities are to be used, e.g. Gaussian Mixture Models. To cover different sources and causes of uncertainty, probability is consistently interpreted as a Degree of Belief (DoB), the interpretation also adopted in Bayesian statistics and in the ISO/IEC Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement (GUM).

The aim of this study is to test suitable candidates for the treatment of progressive multiple sclerosis via animal models and in vitro analysis. For in vivo experiments, we will utilize the murine multiple sclerosis model for experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis as well as the cuprizone-induced model of demyelination. For in vitro experiments, primary cell cultures of CNS-resident cells will be used. The main methods of this study will be among others flow cytometry, magnetic-activated cell sorting, ELISA, qPCR and immunohistology.
