1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Wireless communications
Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD project focuses on the design of novel medium access control and radio resource management enablers for the efficient support of heterogeneous demanding services in a 6G air interface. Specifically, the project will explore new methods, including AI techniques, that leverage context information for the specific operational scenario and application(and eventually, the capability of partially controlling the radio environment) for a high performance low energy design.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Engineering
Summary of PhD Program:
The solid oxide electrolysis cell technology offers unmatched efficiencies but are prone to degradation at high current densities. Experimental results show that overlaying the constant current with and alternating one(AC:DC) can significantly extend the lifetime of the cells, facilitating a faster transition to more efficient technologies. In this project, you will build a model of the SOEC cells, obtain fundamental understanding of the processes increasing the lifetime. With this, you will construct a multi-scale model ranging from materials to systems models, collaborating with a team of experts developing this approach for various technologies. The target is to predict the techno-economic optimal operating conditions for a system utilising the AC:DC mode of operation.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Materials Discovery
Summary of PhD Program:
The aim in this PhD project is to conceptualize and make a framework for chemistry-aware digital twins(DT) covering from atomic level up to power system level in P2X system. For that system level surrogate models need to be built, including future time evolution and degradation models based on multi-physics simulations, which can portray meso- to macro-scale physics like transport, electrochemical governing equations, and degradation from catalyst deactivation. Interfaces between different level of models are to be defined and various model-reduction methods are to be investigated. The DT models will be deployed to real electrolyzers for studying their performance and durability for newly developed catalysts and materials which are discovered in the CAPeX Research Themes as well as being applied in the X-trails of CAPeX.

The potential scope of the PhD stipends could include multimodal signal processing for hearing assistive devices such as users EEG, low complexity DNNs using Bayesian learning and stochastic computing, advanced speech enhancement, and novel learning paradigms including self-supervised learning, etc. We are looking for highly motivated, independent, and outstanding students that desire to do a successful 3-year PhD programme at Aalborg University.
