PhD Programs at Scuola Normale Superiore

All doctoral programmes are open to both Italian and non-Italian students. All students admitted to our doctoral programmes receive a scholarship, which includes financial support for accommodation. Students are also entitled to free meals at the School’s canteen.

No registration fees are required, and the School refunds the regional student tax. All students are entitled to additional funding for their research activities, in Italy and abroad.

For each PhD course, a place is reserved for candidates who graduated in foreign universities, provied they obtained a qualification valid to access the competition.

A place is reserved in the ranking list for each course.

Eligibility Criteria

The following candidates, regardless of their citizenship, can apply:

1. Those who have a master’s degree or an equivalent non-italian qualification, awarded no more than five years before the deadline of the call (Faculty of Humanities – 30 March 2018)

2. Those who will obtain a master’s degree in Italy or an equivalent qualification in a non-Italian university by 31October 2023;

3. Admission to doctoral programmes will be based on academic assessment of candidates and on interviews.
