2. 14 Fully Funded PhD Position in Education Pilot for Mathematics of Sensing, Imaging and Modelling (DREAM)

Summary of PhD Program:

The DREAM doctoral pilot is looking for fourteen (14) Doctoral Researchers:
(A) Eight (8) researchers will work at the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis (https://math.aalto.fi/en/) and the Department of Applied Physics (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-applied-physics) in Aalto University School of Science. The positions focus on applied inverse problems, complex systems and materials, computational imaging, modeling, numerical analysis, uncertainty quantification, scientific computing, and/or a closely related field of applied mathematics or physics.
The doctoral researchers will be supervised by

  • Professor Mikko Alava (Department of Applied Physics),
  • Associate Professor Antti Hannukainen (Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis),
  • Professor Nuutti Hyvönen (Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis),
  • Associate Professor Vanni Noferini (Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis).

(B) Six (6) researchers will work at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering (https://www.aalto.fi/department-of-neuroscience-and-biomedical-engineering) in Aalto University School of Science. The positions focus on medical imaging (diffuse optical tomography, magneto- and electroencephalography, ultrasound, multimodal imaging) in projects ranging from experimental research to computational data analysis and modelling.

7. 11 Fully Funded PhD Position in Photonics

Summary of PhD Program:

You will mainly be working in the Micronova facility. Micronova’s facilities allow flexible processing and integration of micro- and nanoelectronic, micromechanical, photonic and fluidic devices. Substrate materials include silicon, III-V semiconductors, glass and quartz. The main wafer size is 150 mm, but also 200 mm and 100mm are supported for some processes. For some purposes even smaller samples are used. All necessary main process technologies are available, including optical and nanolithography, CMOS and BiCMOS, dry and wet etching, focused ion beam milling, micropackaging, wafer bonding, thin film processing and epitaxial deposition.
