2. 02 Postdoctoral Position in International Law for the EASTERNISATION Research Project

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The project will build on two major pillars: (1) conceptualisation of IL (theoretical inquiry); and (2) contestation of IL (practice-oriented inquiry). The combination of the theoretical (what is IL in China and Russia?) and practical aspects of the research inquiry (how is IL applied by Russia and China?), coupled with a comparison to the Western approaches to IL, intend to provide a holistic picture of the impact of the regionalization of IL on the existing ILO.

The ambition of the project is to offer reflections on (1) emerging similarities and differences between Russian and Chinese approaches to IL following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the backdrop of the evolution of legal thinking and IL practice in both countries; (1) necessary measures to be adopted by the international community to prevent a further breakdown of the ILO as a result of the process of the regionalization of IL pursued by Russia and China; and (2) the future of the discipline of IL affected by such processes.

5. Postdoctoral Position in political theory

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoc will be part of a project entitled Who are We? Self-identity, Social Cognition, and Collective Intentionality funded by the Carlsberg Foundation and headed by Prof. Dan Zahavi. Applicants are asked to situate and develop their research plan within the framework of the Who are we? project. Read about the project here: Who are we – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk) The larger project investigates what it means to feel, think, and act as part of a we.

Its guiding hypothesis is that a systematic account of the we must be embedded in a more comprehensive investigation of selfhood and social cognition. The project will systematically develop this hypothesis by combining cross-disciplinary theorizing with historical scholarship. In particular, it will draw on seminal contributions from classical phenomenology. In addition to philosophers, the project also involves social scientists (from social anthropology, sociology, social psychology, and clinical psychology).

8. Postdoctoral Position in root architecture and rhizosphere processes in the contexts of root-soil-fertilizer and root-root interactions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Plant roots can display several strategies to improve capture of resources from soil, including 1) architectural traits that affect the spatial exploration of a soil volume; 2) adaptive (plastic) responses to zones of high nutrient supply e.g., around phosphorus (P) fertiliser granules; 3) physiochemical alteration of the environment in their rhizosphere e.g., release of protons and exudates such as citrate or acid phosphatase. Conversely, plant roots and their function are also influenced by the soil environment, as well as by roots of neighbouring plants. Much remains unknown about how these interactions affect plant and root growth– in part because they are hard to study in soil directly.

9. Postdoctoral Position in nanostructure electrodeposition and electrocatalysis

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In a carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion or water-splitting electrolyser, the CO2 or water molecules are reduced at the cathode, and water is oxidized to oxygen at the anode. The water oxidation or oxygen evolution reaction (OER) requires high applied overpotentials, which highly reduces the energy efficiency of the electrolyser. In contrast, the oxidation of organic molecules derived from biomass, consumes considerably less energy than the OER, being a promising alternative oxidation reaction at the anode. The project aims to prepare new nanostructured materials, by using electrodeposition technique, for the electrochemical oxidation of biomass-derived molecules, such as furfural oxidation, coupled or under conditions of CO2-electrolysis.

12. Postdoctoral Position in plant Proteomics

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

There is an essential need for substitution of animal protein with plant protein in our diet to get a more sustainable food production, as up to 75% of the greenhouse gas emissions from our food consumption origins from meat and dairy food products. One of the major drivers for this shift is plant-based alternatives, however, animal protein provides unique sensory and textural properties. The structure of plant proteins is very different from animal proteins and many of the plant-based alternatives currently on the market are rejected by consumers due to poor structural properties. The goal of this project is to identify pea seeds from the NordGen genebank that are more suitable for plant-based alternatives than the commercial available pea cultivars.

19. Postdoctoral Position in cardiac calcium imaging

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Clinical trials of pharmacological therapy for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) have produced largely neutral results. The management of patients with HFpEF is mostly directed toward treating associated conditions (e.g., hypertension and diabetes). We hypothesize that remodeling leading to HFpEF is bimodal: There is an increase in interstitial, cardiac fibrosis and there is a slowing of the intracellular calcium cycling during the heartbeat. You will test this hypothesis and also test the ability of drug-treatment to invigorate the intracellular calcium handling. We use a mouse model of HFpEF to study the disease progression and potential treatment strategies.
