Summary of PhD Program:

The project focuses initially on the development of labelling and fluorescence imaging strategies to target various endogenous biological targets, in particular the translation of biochemical assays to a microscopy read-out. The candidates (m/f/d) will work on the optimization and evaluation of endogenous and exogenous live-cell and fixed labelling approaches for super-resolution microscopy. This project combines molecular biological approaches, biochemical techniques and far-field super-resolution microscopy.The research project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the KMU-innovativ: Photonik und Quantentechnologien.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Deciphering the mechanisms of polymicrobial infections using Drosophila melanogaster as a model

Summary of PhD Program:

The Iatsenko lab utilizes the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a genetic model to investigate conserved host defense mechanisms, pathogen virulence factors that mediate immune evasion, and the role of microbiota in infection outcomes. Our primary focus lies in unravelling the pathogenesis of polymicrobial infections. While the recognition of the polymicrobial nature of infections is growing, the prevalence, microbial composition, and impact of such infections on natural Drosophila populations remain unknown. Therefore, our project aims to achieve the following objectives: 1) Estimate the prevalence and microbial composition of polymicrobial infections in natural Drosophila populations. 2) Investigate the effects of isolated polymicrobial communities versus individual microbes on the host. 3) Decipher the mechanisms that govern inter-microbial interactions during selected polymicrobial infections.

The mission of our IMPRS is to study fundamental biological processes in plants and to create knowledge and material that can empower innovative plant breeding. More than 30 research groups study regulatory networks controlling fundamental traits such as reproductive development, organ geometry and growth, innate immunity and microbiome effects on plant performance. They apply and develop a broad range of interdisciplinary technologies ranging from genetics and genomics to structural biochemistry, advanced imaging and computational modelling in various plant species.

We will trap a single positron and an electron simultaneously in a cryogenic Penning ion trap and cool them to the quantum ground-state of motion. Then, using coherent spin manipulation, we search for a possible tiny difference of their properties (mass, charge or magnetic moment) – which would indicate physics beyond our standard model and help understanding what happened to the antimatter in the early universe.

The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute, AEI) in Potsdam, Germany, announces the opening of several PhD positions in “Gravity & Matter at the Extreme”. 8. 05 Fully Funded PhD Position in Knowledge and Its Resources: Historical Reciprocities

The IMPRS-KIR is a research-driven PhD program based in the history and philosophy of science, technology, and medicine (HPSTM). The project aims at understanding the role of karrikin signalling, a plant hormone signaling pathway, in the development of a plant-fungal symbiosis called arbuscular mycorrhiza, in which plants and fungi exchange nutrients. Interestingly, the impact of this pathway on the symbiosis differs among plant species, and we want to understand the molecular basis for this phenomenon.
