We are offering a two-year post-doctoral position at the Department of Mathematics that is financed by the “Postdoctoral program in Mathematics for researchers from outside Sweden” of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation through funding granted to Lilian Matthiesen. In this Postdoc position, you are expected to research upon high-pressure pyrolysis. You will conduct experiments both in lab and pilot scale reactors following a systematic plan that will enable design of full-scale biomass conversion facilities. You will also contribute to ongoing research activities within biomass pyrolysis and gasification. The position is funded by a large nationally funded project where the aim is to utilize waste heat in biomass conversion processes. We seek to create the body-centric operating system (BOS), a cross-platform and modular software toolkit for developing body computing applications. BOS employs sensors and actuators in and on humans and computing platforms outside of human bodies. It facilitates the development tasks of application domain experts in medical sciences, smart health, and social sciences, allowing them to focus on application goals rather than low-level system issues.

25. Postdoctoral Position in Chemical Engineering – characterization of absorption solvents, CCS
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The project aims at overcoming this limitation by using process analytical technology (PAT) for in-situ characterization of the absorption solvent. Different sensor probes will be evaluated, and methods are developed for combining the signals from the different sensors to characterize the state of the absorption solvent. The work includes lab scale experiments for assessing the different sensor probes and for collecting relevant data; theoretical work for correlating the sensor signals to the solvent properties; and field trials at the pilot plant facility of our industrial partner for assessing the robustness of the developed methods.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The goal of this project is to use computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD) methods for the analysis of turbulent flows around complex geometries. To this end, high-order spectral methods will be employed to perform both well-resolved large-eddy simulations and direct numerical simulations, in order to assess the influence of the relevant flow structures. We are also interested in using deep-learning methods to further understand the impact of the simulation parameters on the results and to effectively design novel strategies for optimization and control of the flow.
