7. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A position for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (RA) in the laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Brown in the Department of Pharmacology, University of North Carolina, School of Medicine. Join our team investigating the mechanistic underpinnings of protein ubiquitination. This process is involved in nearly every eukaryotic signaling pathway and is governed by ubiquitin ligases. These enzymes are disrupted in countless disease processes, including Alzheimer’s disease. Using innovative approaches, such as Time-Resolved Cryo-EM, we explore how ubiquitin ligases recruit substrates and build a proteasome degradation signal (e.g., Bodrug et al., NSMB, in press; Welsh*, Bolhuis* et al., EMBO J 2022; Martinez-Chacin et al., NSMB 2020). These principles are used to understand targeted protein degradation, an emerging method to eliminate unwanted proteins for therapeutic purposes.
