2. Postdoctoral Position in European biodiversity and climate mitigation

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The main aim is to quantify historical trajectories in relevant biodiversity and climate-related variables across Europe, primarily using remote sensing data (Landsat, supplemented with recent data from e.g. Sentinel and GEDI). These trajectories of change will then be linked to land use and ecosystem management strategies, including different forms of rewilding, and environmental variables in order to explain and attribute change in biodiversity and climate variables. There will also be scope to incorporate spatial biodiversity data, e.g. of plants and potentially other taxa.

3. Postdoctoral Position in seismic mapping and glacial seismic stratigraphy around Greenland

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a newly established research group working to assess and quantify long-term ice-sheet evolution and glacial landscape formation in Greenland since ice-sheet inception. More broadly, the project aims to understand the influence of erosion and deposition on solid-Earth deformation, ice-sheet stability, and sea-level change. One of the main objectives of the research is to compile offshore sediment volumes around Greenland, from existing seismic interpretations and contributing with new seismic mapping.

These offshore sediment volumes will be used in source-to-sink analyses to assess onshore erosion, the behavior of past ice sheets in Greenland, and glacial landscape evolution. Additional objectives in the research group relates to i) the influence of glacial landscape evolution for ice-sheet dynamics and ice volume, and ii) the influence of erosion and deposition on solid-Earth deformation and resulting sea-level changes in the Greenland region since ice inception. The position is funded by a Sapere Aude grant from the Danish Research Council.

4. Postdoctoral Position in the ReBIAS research project

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are substances that affect hormones in the body and are linked to health issues such as infertility, obesity, and cancer. Despite policy efforts, EDCs are still present in many consumer products. However, our exposure to EDCs also depends on our personal behaviors, such as the food we eat or the personal-care products we use. Unfortunately, due to cognitive biases (systematic errors in thinking), many people underestimate EDC risks compared to experts and do nothing to prevent them.

To increase public response, we will use rebiasing (fighting cognitive biases with other cognitive biases). This project will pioneer interdisciplinary research on cognitive biases associated with EDCs and how we can use them to change EDC risk behavior. It will yield a conceptual framework for understanding EDC risk behavior through cognitive biases, a method to improve EDC risk perceptions, and a behavioral intervention expected to change people’s EDC risk behavior.

5. Postdoctoral Position in algorithms

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A post doc position in algorithms and/or theoretical aspects of machine learning is available. The post doc is under the supervision of Professor Kasper Green Larsen, Aarhus University, Denmark. The focus of the research project may be on topics such as dimensionality reduction, sketching, and/or learning theoretic questions, depending on the candidate’s background. The candidate is expected to work on theoretical research questions within the above focus areas.

6. Postdoctoral Position in Neural Tissue Engineering

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

De-myelination is the loss of the myelin sheath insulating the nerves, which disrupts the ability the nervous system to transmit signals, resulting in multiple sclerosis with over 2.5 million people affected world-wide and representing a serious health, economic and social burden with no long-term suitable treatment.

The ongoing research on myelin repair is heavily dependent on re-myelination by glial cell transplantation, which often fails with disease progression leading to irreversible functional failure. The project aims to apply innovative electrospinning technology to recapitulate the myelinated nerve fibers to elucidate pathological mechanisms of multiple sclerosis on a single-nerve fiber scale as well as pursuing the novel diagnosis and therapy discovery.

7. Postdoctoral Position in environmental DNA (eDNA) and bioassessment

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Biodiversity is declining globally, and accurate, efficient methods for assessing ecosystem quality are therefore essential. However, current methods are often destructive and resource-heavy, relying on taxonomic experts to identify individual organisms. The use of eDNA – DNA from environmental samples like water or soil – allows for more efficient, less invasive biomonitoring and -assessment. But while eDNA methods are less dependent on taxonomic experts than classic methods, many DNA sequences cannot be identified to species, as much of biodiversity is undescribed or unsequenced. We are now seeking a highly motivated postdoc for a project on the inclusion of such “dark taxa” in bioassessment, through the use of supervised machine learning.

8. Postdoctoral Position in Macroecological isotopic perspectives on past novel ecosystem dynamics

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This postdoc project is part of the newly established Center for Ecological Dynamics in a Novel Biosphere (ECONOVO), funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. Overall, ECONOVO aims to provide critically new perspectives on the future of the biosphere. Novel ecosystems (NEs) have species compositions or abiotic conditions without historical precedent, e.g., intercontinental species invasions and extraordinary warming. NEs are spreading fast and expected to be globally dominant by the late 21st century.

9. Postdoctoral Position in studying pollinator decline

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are currently witnessing a decline in species richness and abundance for certain insect groups, of which pollinators is a key example. However, the magnitude, timing and potential drivers of the decline is debated. We are now seeking a highly motivated postdoc to play a leading role in a project exploring these uncertainties through new molecular methods and sample types.

The project will investigate: i) population size history of selected insect/pollinator species using genome-wide SNP data from modern samples; ii) historical change in resource use for declining pollinators using metabarcoding of pollen from museum and modern specimens as well as historical plant maps; and iii) variation in current pollinator networks using eDNA metabarcoding of flower samples and pollen along gradients in floral composition and habitat disturbance.

25. Postdoctoral Position in metabolic reprogramming by selective autophagy

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The goal of this project is to dissect the role of selective autophagy in metabolic adaptations to nutrient shifts. We have been systematically investigating autophagy-mediated metabolic regulation in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In particular, we will monitor cargo material, i.e., proteins and organelles, selectively delivered to vacuoles by autophagosomes during dynamic transitions of different carbon sources and from rich to poor nutrient conditions, by using a combination of genetic techniques and quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Simultaneously, we have been using high-throughput metabolomics to measure dynamic changes in extra- and intra-cellular metabolites and resolve the metabolic rewiring during the studied nutrient transitions.

26. Postdoctoral Position in Signal Processing

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The goal of the project is to develop and advance the state of the art in nonstationary signal processing for temporal (time-series) and (time-varying) graph signals. An increasing number of application areas demand the processing of large and complex data sets originating from e.g., social, sensor, biological and power networks. Graphs have emerged as a powerful framework to encode complex interactions within such data.

The combination of graph formalism and traditional signal processing tools have opened up a new research field of graph signal processing (GSP), which has already delivered impressive performance gains over standard approaches in many application areas. However, further progress in the field of GSP demands new approaches that generalise standard signal processing concepts, theories and techniques to graph signals.
