2. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The DMP group at MPI Magdeburg is an inter-disciplinary research unit addressing these questions from different perspectives. The theoretical centerpiece of our work is the Koopman operator description of dynamical systems, which leads to a linearization of a dynamical system using an infinite-dimensional feature space. On a theoretical level, we are interested in describing the convergence and approximation error of data-driven approximations to the Koopman operator. On the algorithmic level, we design efficient algorithms for the analysis or control of dynamical systems using Koopman operators. On the application end, we apply these methods to efficiently analyze large-scale simulations of molecular systems, using classical or quantum descriptions.

9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A multitude of DNA-repair pathways ensure genomic integrity in a healthy cell. Disbalances or dysfunctionalities in these pathways can lead to genomic instability, which is a central contributor to carcinogenesis and ageing. Our research aims to provide a better understanding of the relationship between genome maintenance, ageing, and cancer, in an interdisciplinary approach. Within this project, we dissect defects in genome instability in patients suffering from mantle cell lymphoma, a mature B-cell lymphoma typically affecting the elderly. For these patients, mechanism-based therapies are scarce and treatment outcomes remain relatively poor. We investigate the mechanisms underlying this disease and its tumor microenvironment composition to identify potential novel therapeutic approaches. To this end, we apply a wide range of tools involving biochemistry, cell biology, high-dimensional multiplex imaging, next-generation sequencing and computational biology, and transfer these findings to modern genetically engineered and patient-derived mouse models.

10. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Anion exchange membrane (AEM) and cation exchange membrane (CEM) electrolyzers are promising technologies to generate compressed green H2 at high current densities with a more compact cell design than traditional alkaline water electrolysis. However, so far, understanding about complex gas diffusion electrode – membrane interfaces is limited. Similarly, there exists a large knowledge gap about the impact of the interfacial membrane and ionomer environments on the performance of the HER and OER electrocatalysts and the influence of interfacial membrane electrolyte environments. The latter is not only relevant for AEM electrolyzers being operated with supporting alkaline electrolyte, but also for electrodialysis applications, e.g. for the electrochemical production of pure acid and base solutions from salt solutions.

14. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Glycosylation is an important modification of proteins and is involved in the regulation of the biological activity and stability of many proteins. Notably, the glycosylation of many eukaryotic proteins appears to be highly regulated and minor structural changes of the glycan portions may lead to major changes in function. Therefore, protein glycosylation analysis is becoming increasingly important in medical/clinical, biopharmaceutical, as well as biotechnological research. As a PostDoc of the Bio/Process Analytics team you will join a multidisciplinary group working on the deeper understanding of bio(techno)logical processes on the molecular level developing and using proteomic, glycoproteomic and glycomic tools. You will have project and personnel responsibilities to develop and improve cutting edge methods for analysis of protein glycosylation. With a particular focus on glycobiotechnology, you will apply these methods for studying protein glycosylation, unraveling the protein glycosylation process with respect to its understanding and optimization.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Fish Facility is a newly founded core facility, making use of almost 10 years of killifish research experience at the Institute. The concept of the facility is to provide scientists with the opportunity to rapidly and efficiently test if genes and treatments linked to lifespan in other systems (long-lived human cohorts, C. elegans or D. melanogaster) have conserved functions in a naturally short-lived vertebrate. To achieve this, the facility offers the full breadth of necessary services, starting from support in planning killifish experiments, to generating transgenic lines and assessing phenotypic outcomes. The Department of Molecular Genetics of Ageing and the Fish Facility are now jointly seeking a highly motivated and talented scientist to join our institute and pursue a scientific research project linked to the biology of ageing. Complementing this, the candidate shall also take a lead role working with other scientists at the institute who are interested in using killifish for their research, thus establishing the scientific services of the facility.

20. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are interested in revealing the molecular secrets of ADP-ribosylation (ADPr), a challenging PTM that plays key roles in health and disease. Using advanced proteomics, we uncovered Serine ADPr as a new type of histone mark (Nature Chemical Biology 2016) and described the underlying molecular mechanisms by identifying HPF1/PAPR1 as its reader complex (Mol Cell 2017) and ARH3 as its eraser (eLife 2017). Crucially, we and others have shown that Ser-ADPr is the primary form of ADPr in the DNA damage response (eLife 2018). These insights are stimulating studies of how Ser-ADPr regulates the DNA damage response and chromatin dynamics, as exemplified by our recent report on the interplay between Ser-ADPr and canonical histone marks (Cell Reports 2018). Recently we established a chemical biology strategy that is based on the Ser-ADPr writer complex and allows the generation of a range of essential tools for ADPr. This novel technology has broad potential to illuminate ADPr signalling pathways in essential biological processes and has allowed us to elucidate the prevalence of mono-ADPr upon DNA damage (Cell 2020).
