4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Fibre-optic Instrumentation for Aerospace Manufacturing

Summary of PhD Program:

The aim is to exploit a novel fibre-optic probe in the interferometric measurement of difficult to access, internal surfaces such as precision, laser drilled components where destructive and cumbersome methods such as sectioning are currently required. The PhD programme will focus on the design, building and testing of fibre-based instrumentation for the internal measurement of a miniature laser-drilled component. Fully Funded PhD Position in Engineering New Materials for Solid-State Cooling

Summary of PhD Program:

Engineering new materials is crucial for transforming the way we cool our world. While traditional vapour compression technology has dominated the refrigeration industry for decades, it faces limitations in efficiency, environmental impact, and miniaturisation potential. This necessitates a shift towards solid-state cooling, and electrocaloric materials offer a promising solution. These remarkable materials, capable of changing temperature under an electric field, hold the key to developing more efficient and compact cooling systems.
