1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Islamic Theology

Summary of PhD Program:

The main purpose of this recommended research project is to promote the academic conception of progressive voices in Islamic theology (preferably with a focus on Islamic liberation theology approaches) formed in response to the main challenges of living in (post-)secular, (post-)colonialist societies. The program involves the development and implementation of an evidence-based (as opposed to faith-based) research project (in Humanities or Social Sciences) on a topic relevant to the above theme. Corporate/mass media and mainstream discourses about Islam in the West focus heavily on regressive, violent movements, misleadingly portraying them as the dominant faces of Islamic cultures.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Flotation Kinetics of Ultrafine Mineral Particles using a Sparger in a Downcomer

Summary of PhD Program:

The aim of this study is to relate the extreme kinetics produced in a downcomer formed using a gas sparger arrangement to measurable quantities including the shear rate, bubble volume fraction, bubble size and particle size. In turn the project seeks to determine the fundamental limits on bubble-particle collision and attachment rates. A well-defined sparger geometry will be used in the experimental investigation to quantify the internal shear rate of the gas and liquid fluxes, and particle size using high speed flow visualisation to achieve in situ bubble size measurements. The work will involve collaboration with researchers from the University of Queensland.

9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computer Modelling Investigation of a Novel Granular Separation Mechanism

Summary of PhD Program:

The project, which is based as the University of Newcastle, is supervised by Dr Moreno-Atanasio and Laureate Professor Kevin Galvin, and involves researchers from Melbourne University and Curtin University, with direct connections to the minerals industry. The Sink-Hole Fluidiser system consists of a dry fluidised bed subjected to vibration. The physical arrangement includes an upper screen that contains a relatively large hole, creating a sink-hole condition for sorting particles according to density. Particles of a high density fall through, while lower density particles pass across the hole.
