5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computer Science, PhD Project in Privacy and Cybersecurity

Summary of PhD Program:

While there currently exists multiple protocols for metadata privacy, from protocols with strong privacy guarantees but large overhead (e.g., DC-nets), to more practical protocols like onion routing (e.g., Tor), they are either not available in the wild, or there are known attacks against them. A reason for these shortcomings is the inherent challenge when designing metadata private protocols: protocols need to sacrifice either low latency, low bandwith overhead, or strong privacy. In this project, we are interested in finding new, practical solutions that still maintain strong privacy, which requires us to strike an adequate trade-off between performance and privacy.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in studying gain-of-function GABAA receptor variants in developmental and epileptic encephalopathies

Summary of PhD Program:

The Perrier Lab at the Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, is seeking a motivated and talented PhD fellow to study the impact of gain-of-function (GOF) mutations in GABAA receptors implicated in developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs). DEEs are severe early-onset conditions characterized by intractable epilepsy, intellectual disability, developmental delay or regression, movement disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. Although missense variants in GABAA receptor subunits are often assumed to cause loss of receptor function (LOF), recent work by our collaborators at the University of Sydney (Australia) and Filadelfia Hospital (Denmark) shows that GOF variants are just as prevalent, and their functional outcomes closely correlate with patient phenotypes.

10.
Fully Funded PhD Position in Human-computer Interaction

Summary of PhD Program:

The field of Human-Computer Interaction seeks to make computer systems in all forms useful and usable for end users. For the past 40 years, this has been done by creating methods for involving users in the design and evaluation of systems. However, we all have experienced computer systems that are frustrating, help solve the wrong tasks, or cause additional work. The field also struggles to make emerging technologies, such as AI, extended reality, and social media, benefit end users rather than deskill or distract them. The idea of this project is that the field lacks theories that can help understand and predict when and why computer systems are useful and usable.
