The position would be part of a six year project of Charles Langmuir funded by the European Research Council and the National Science Foundation to obtain long time series of igneous and hydrothermal activity at ocean ridges. There is the potential to obtain the first continuous, high resolution, well dated million year time series of volcanic activity for any terrestrial volcanic system.
