This will focus on preclinical models using radiation therapy and analysis of clinical trial samples. Our laboratory is translational and has significant experience taking our preclinical findings to the clinic and anticipate the findings here to build our next clinical trial experience. Thomas Jefferson’s Department of Family and Community Medicine seeks one post-doctoral scholars to start in Fall 2022, Winter or Spring of 2023 for 24-36 month T32 fellowships. Dr. Sara Meyer’s lab studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of hematologic malignancies, with a focus on normal hematopoietic stem cell function, leukemia stem cell biology, and the response of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to therapeutic intervention: Meyer et al., Cancer Discovery (2016). Taking translational approaches to science, our group works closely with clinicians in the acute leukemia group at Jefferson Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center to focus our research on important clinical problems. The Weinberg ALS Center is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join its translational research program under the supervision of Dr. Hristelina Ilieva. This program focuses on cell, molecular and biochemical work using bio-fluids (urine and blood), skin biopsy samples and, ultimately, iPSC-motor neurons derived from patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Fronto-temporal Dementia (FTD). The goal is to use these samples as template to (a) identify disease biomarkers and (b) in cases of geneticallylinked ALS of elucidating details of the pathogenic mechanism(s) related to the genetic abnormality. The successful candidate will use several approaches including neuronal cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, advanced microscopy, and analysis of human tissue samples. Experience with stem cells is a plus but not obligatory. Our goal is to take advantage of the postdoc’s existing expertise while allowing growth and development.
