Summary of PhD Program:

One of our research groups works closely with the forest industry with a focus on robotics, sensor systems and artificial intelligence. In the spring of 2024, we will start a project funded by MSB with a focus on how autonomous and remote-controlled forest machines can improve the coarse-grained estimation of the risk of ignition of forest and grass fires that exist today. Those interested in applying should have an interdisciplinary background in robotics or mechatronics, and a keen interest in immersing themselves in a critical societal area.

In this project, you will have the opportunity to explore multimodal mobility patterns in the Stockholm region using various data sources such as GPS, highway microwave sensors, toll portals, e-scooters, mobile phones, and public transport smart card data. Macro/micro- stress evolution in complex microstructures of steels under cyclic loadings in electric vehicles. This project will implement in- situ measurements to investigate the mechanical response of surface hardened steels with different types of complex microstructures. This understanding can aid the development of improved materials and processes for optimal fatigue resistance.

ShiftLeft seeks to transform the security of software supply chain by introducing a declarative code-centric platform supporting continuous security analysis. 5. Fully Funded PhD Position in wireless sub-THz and THz communications for 6G and beyond

Summary of PhD Program:

In this doctoral project, you will contribute to the theory formation for mobile sub-THz and THz wireless communication systems for 6G and beyond and establish yourself at the international forefront. Some possible research sub-areas are related to physically large antenna arrays, near-field THz communications, intelligent reflecting surfaces, joint terahertz communication and wireless sensing, and terahertz communications for satellite networks, but there are opportunities to adapt the research to your personal interests. The research will focus on the physical layer and media access control layer. 8. Fully Funded PhD Position in electromagnetic field theory for medical applications

Summary of PhD Program:

The research group in electromagnetic field theory is now looking for a PhD student in electromagnetic theory for medical applications. The project aims to develop and evaluate a non-invasive method to stimulate the activity in brain tissue, using gold nanoparticles (GNP). The method is intended to be used for treatment of patients with neurological disorders, such as e.g. Parkinson’s disease. The existing methods for deep brain stimulation have several important limitations such as invasiveness, limited miniaturization, poor resolution and limited spatial coverage (not able to monitor or stimulate a sufficient number of neurons).

Fully Funded PhD Position in biorefinery concept for marine secondary sources

Summary of PhD Program:

Secondary marine sources are valuable feedstocks for biorefinery concept. The aim of this PhD project is to establish a new biobased production platform for achieving circularity fish feed from fish manure/fish waste. The project includes bioprocess design, analyses of bioproducts. This position is financed by international project SEAREFINERY. Summary of PhD Program:

Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) for the brain is a technique of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in which mechanical properties of the brain tissue are estimated non-invasively. Our group is creating next-generation MRE tools to improve the mechanical characterization of brain tissues. These methods will go beyond the current state-of-the-art. We collaborate with doctors from Karolinska University Hospital to use the methods to characterize different brain diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and brain tumors.

12. Fully Funded PhD Position in design optimization of thermal technologies for industrial decarbonization

Summary of PhD Program:

To decarbonize the industrial sector, cost-effective solutions integrating renewable energy sources and energy storage are necessary. Moreover, most of the industries characterize for having large and variable heat requirements in their production processes, and so optimized thermal processes and technologies are paramount for their decarbonization, including for example heat pumps, electric heaters, thermal energy storage, and heat exchangers. We conduct research in biomechanical imaging and modelling to improve diagnostic and treatment procedures and prevent various types of injuries and diseases. This project aims to develop new imaging and computational tools for the prevention, diagnosis and follow up of treatment of birth-related injuries. The project focuses on vacuum-assisted births, as evidence suggests that both the woman and the baby are at higher risk of injury when a vacuum cup is used. The research involves the development of experimental and computational methods as well as ultrasound shear wave elastography to improve the assessment of maternal pelvic floor muscle and fetal brain injuries due to childbirth.
