Cerebrovascular dysfunction is a leading cause of dementia. There is an urgent public health need for basic and translational progress in understanding vascular dementia. The labs of Dr. Sarah Lutz (UIC) and Dr. Brian Popko (Northwestern) are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic candidate for a joint appointment to study blood-brain barrier dysfunction in vascular dementia. This project will utilize a newly developed mouse model of vascular dementia, transcriptomics of the cerebrovascular niche, and potential therapeutic interventions targeting the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.
