1. PhD Position Medical Science – Molecular biology

Summary of PhD Positions:

Mitochondria convert chemical energy into ATP by utilizing a system of molecular machines, the respiratory chain complexes. The complexes driving oxidative phosphorylation are a mosaic of proteins encoded by the nuclear and the mitochondrial DNA. Therefore, assembly of the respiratory chain and the ATPase requires not only expression and import of many nuclear encoded proteins but also translation of mitochondrially encoded proteins. The mitochondrial genetic system is responsible for replication and transcription of the mitochondrial genome and for the synthesis of a few polypeptides within the organelle. We are looking for you, who is genuinely interested in basic molecular mechanisms. You should have experience of protein analyzes and / or good knowledge in molecular biology or biochemistry. We value personal integrity as well as interest and commitment to development.

5. Four PhD Position in dependent type theory in mathematics and computer science

Summary of PhD Positions:

Third-cycle studies comprises four years of full-time studies and leads after a successful completion to a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science and Engineering. Those who are employed as doctoral students must primarily devote themselves to their doctoral education. However, a doctoral student may to a limited extent work with education, research and administration, so-called departmental service in a teaching or supporting role, which can be concentrated on certain parts of the year depending on the needs of the business in consultation with the student. Such work may, before the doctoral degree is completed, not cover more than 20 percent of full-time work over the study period. If departmental service is performed corresponding to 20 percent of full-time study time, the employment contract is extended by the corresponding period, which gives a total employment of five years.

6. PhD Position in Medical Science – Identification of early signs for gynecologic cancer

Summary of PhD Positions:

Identification of tumor biomarkers in gynecologic precancerous lesions and early-stage cancers may have implications for early detection and intervention. In a long-term perspective it could lead to insights on how to prevent unnecessary invasive procedures and improving the prognosis for some gynecologic cancers. The overall aim is to characterize precancerous lesions of the gynecologic tract and to develop a diagnostic tool for early detection/screening of endometrial carcinoma through a minimally invasive approach.

7. PhD Position in Medical Science – Global mapping of Antimicrobial Resistance

Summary of PhD Positions:

The objective of the PhD project is to develop new geospatial methods to map antimicrobial resistance in animals. In particular, this PhD project will focus on i) ensemble forecasting from multiples geospatial models, ii) expansion of geospatial model in the space-time dimensions ii) identifying new spatial covariates of AMR and iii) propagation of uncertainty in geospatial models, including position uncertainty of AMR surveys. The project will leverage existing global datasets (resistancebank.org), and also potentially build on ongoing data collection efforts in Sweden to surveillance. The ideal candidate will also bring his/her own research questions to develop in the broad field of spatial epidemiology. In the newly founded Health Geography Group, we try to brings together people from a diversity of educational backgrounds, and countries to build complementarities in the team.

8. PhD Position in Medical Science – EpiMEG project

Summary of PhD Positions:

This is a multi-disciplinary collaboration between the SA/GU Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, the Sahlgrenska University Hospital Epilepsy Surgery Team and Department of Clinical Neurophysiology as well as the Chalmers University of Technology Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience – MC2. We have been developing high critical-temperature superconducting quantum interference devices (high-Tc SQUIDs) for on-scalp magnetoencephalography (on-scalp MEG) that enables improved signal-to-noise and resolution as compared to the state of the art. This project aims to improve the sensitivity of our sensors via development of next-generation high-Tc nanoSQUIDs while developing and utilizing our on-scalp MEG systems for presurgical workups for epilepsy patients.
