1. Postdoctoral Positions in Physics and Astronomy

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

The successful candidate will work with Dr Nina Dresing in her Academy Research Fellow project SHOCKSEE, which studies the role of shocks for solar energetic electron events. Therefore, the candidate will analyse various data sets measured by multiple spacecraft such as Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, STEREO, SOHO and Wind. While a strong focus is set on energetic particle observations, further measurements to study the in-situ interplanetary context and remote-sensing observations of the solar corona will complement the analyses. The first half of the project consists of extensive observational analyses to build a database and to generate input for later model comparisons. This will be the main assignment of the candidate.

We have a vacancy for an expert in data analytics and bioinformatics to join our Bioinformatics team at the InFLAMES Flagship (https://inflames.utu.fi/en/), University of Turku. The InFLAMES Flagship is a joint effort of the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University to form an internationally top-level immunological research and development cluster, and to become a globally attractive environment for both researchers and business partners.

3. Postdoctoral Positions in Bioinformatics

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

We have a vacancy for a bioinformatics specialist, initially until the end of 2024, with a possibility for extension pending successful review. We are seeking a motivated bioinformatics researcher holding either an MSc or PhD degree, with strong computational and analytical skills and an interest in helping biological and medical researchers in analysing unique singe-cell datasets. The successful candidate will be employed by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku, and will work in collaboration with the single-cell omics and proteomics service units of the Turku Bioscience Centre (https://bioscience.fi/).

4. Postdoctoral Positions in Geography

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

The person chosen will work in a research project funded by the Academy of Finland ‘Wellbeing benefits of urban green infrastructure mapped through participation and 3D virtual landscapes’ (GreenPlace, https://sites.utu.fi/greenplace/).

GreenPlace is a scientifically and methodologically groundbreaking interdisciplinary research project experimenting, developing, testing and applying the use of inclusive digital 3D technologies to design urban green spaces. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the project has also explored changes in outdoor recreation behavior and use of recreational spaces in cities.

Project researcher/postdoctoral researcher will conduct scientific research independently and together with the wider research group and be part of the multidisciplinary and inspiring team. The focus of scientific work is matched according to the strengths of the applicant and the objectives of the GreenPlace project. The project researcher is required to become a doctoral candidate in geography at the University of Turku from the beginning of August 2023 (the presentation of the research plan in May 2023).
