Are you holding Master’s degree and looking for fully funded PhD positions? KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden invites online application for multiple funded PhD Programs / fully funded PhD positions in various research areas.

Candidates interested in fully funded PhD positions can check the details and may apply as soon as possible. Interested and eligible applicants may submit their online application for PhD programs via the University’s Online Application Portal.

1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Secure Software and Microarchitectures

Summary of PhD Program:

Vulnerabilities like Spectre provide alarming evidence that the root of trust of our digital technologies is fundamentally insecure. The security and effectiveness of existing countermeasures is unknown, since they are motivated by informal arguments. In fact, new vulnerabilities that exploit new microarchitecture features or corner cases easily circumvent the countermeasures.

The Division of Theoretical Computer Science is looking for a candidate with a strong background and interest in security, formal methods, and software analysis. The successful candidate will join a WASP project on developing theories and models for information flow properties of computer architectures, solid formal justification for existing and new countermeasures, tools to analyse secure next generation software and hardware.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Human-Centered AI for video games

Summary of PhD Program:

This project addresses the question of how to elicit and incorporate human feedback in the development of autonomous agents, with a specific focus on the design of believable Non-player Characters (NPCs) in video games. While NPCs typically follow pre-scripted actions or dialogue that can affect gameplay, the gaming industry has a large interest in using AI to increase the autonomy and believability of these characters.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Enzyme design and synthesis driven by CO2 and light

Summary of PhD Program:

With a growing population and a reduction in the available natural resources on our planet, there is a great need for an innovative way of producing sustainable chemicals. The main purpose of this research project is to develop methods for sustainable enzymatic production of added-value chemicals driven by CO2 and LEDs. The position is an opportunity to join the enzyme design and engineering team in Syrén’s group to develop new-to-nature biotransformations by designer enzymes.

The research area includes enzyme discovery, sequence-based enzyme design, ancestral sequence reconstruction and development of chemoenzymatic cascades, enzyme technology. Tools for in silico enzyme design will be used to generate designer enzymes that will then be employed in synthesis involving photocatalysis and CO2 for applications within platform chemicals, materials and additives. The work will be placed at the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Networked Systems Security

Summary of PhD Program:

We invite applications for doctoral student positions with the Networked Systems Security (NSS) lab at EECS/SCS. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to pursue a PhD in security and privacy. The positions involve activities leading to original research and results in peer-reviewed publications. The research topics can relate with any of the NSS group areas. The NSS group designs and builds trustworthy networked systems, with a research agenda covering a gamut of security and privacy problems and results that got significant attention by the research community. NSS introduced a new security curriculum at KTH. Candidates with experimental/systems or theoretical profiles and research interests in any aspect of security and privacy are welcome to apply.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Brain-Inspired Hardware on FPGAs

Summary of PhD Program:

We are seeking a Ph.D. student that will work on a project that focuses on creating brain-inspired systems and applications on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR). The Ph.D. student will work with several aspects of brain-inspired systems, including their design, benchmarking, and evaluating them.

The Ph.D. student will also explore emerging technology (e.g., 3D stackable memory) as well as novel applications (e.g., BCPNN) in order to quantify the performance improvements and power consumption benefits of future brain-inspired systems. The student is expected to disseminate research results in top-tier international journals and conferences. In addition, the Ph.D. student will actively participate in department and group activities (such as seminars, courses, and conferences) as well as participate in teaching.

6. 03 Fully Funded PhD Position in learning for autonomous robots

Summary of PhD Program:

Three fully funded doctoral student positions are available in a new robotics research group at KTH that will explore how to adapt recent advances in AI/ML to improve the capabilities of real autonomous robots in real-world workplaces and public spaces. Autonomy requires a high level of robustness and real-time computation. The students will focus on one of the following research directions:

  • Learning to plan and interact with objects (e.g., reinforcement learning/sim2real)
  • Learning to plan and interact with people
  • Learning scalable semantic maps of real world environments

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in building energy system control

Summary of PhD Program:

In the transition toward low-energy buildings and the 5th generation of district heating, using data-driven approaches to integrate decentralized renewables with optimal control will play a vital role. You will join an exciting research team and interdisciplinary EU project to develop and apply machine learning (ML) techniques, novel system control and optimization methods to integrate/operate various thermal storage and building HVAC systems.

You will perform dynamic simulations of energy operation (both thermal and power), as well as testing the developed ML methods/control solutions in multiple live-in-labs across Europe. You will work closely with a large number of industry partners and other researchers to manage project deliverables. Additionally, you will be also expected to perform limited percentages of department duties, i.e., teaching, supervisions of thesis students, etc.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electroactive Cellulose Composites Towards Future Green Devices

Summary of PhD Program:

The combination of cellulose, not the least nanocelluloses, and electrically conducting materials such as PEDOT:PSS, carbon nanotubes, and 2D materials (e.g. graphene, and MXene) has attracted considerable interest over the last decade for applications in various devices, for example for energy storage, actuators, and sensors. The nanometre dimensions of the particles in combination with their excellent mechanical properties, allowing for a bottom‐up design of different devices, have been the major driving force for this renewed interest in cellulose materials, allowing for the preparation of conducting films and composites.
