Summary of PhD Program:

The focus of the position is on evaluating the effectiveness of two types of online cognitive-behavioural therapy to prevent depression recurrence and on identifying individual characteristics that act as predictors or moderators of the therapies’ efficacy. Specifically, the candidate will seek to determine if socio-demographic (e.g., age, gender) and/or clinical (e.g., concentration difficulties) increase or decrease the prevention power of the online cognitive-behavioural therapies. The position starts on the 15th of January 2024 for a three-year employment of 37 weekly hours.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Bio-Machines

Summary of PhD Program:

The work to be undertaken by the PhD candidate is designed to understand the ways how literary fiction negotiates imaginaries of intelligent and life-animating bio-machines (such as AI, chatbots, robots). How does literature (novels, poetry, fiction, drama) represent life with these new artificial smart machines and how does it address their potential life-status? While open to the candidates’ proposal, we are specifically committed to questions how bio-machines configure our intimate life-worlds as affective and living companions. An emerging genre of fiction portrays humanoid robots as friends, partners, and lovers. By means of their advanced technical sensoria, these bio-machinic companions can express empathy, compassion, and ethical values about human-machine relationships.

The aim of the project SENSIBLE is to teleoperate a robot by a human operator to perform challenging maintenance tasks for wind turbine blades, e.g., leading-edge repair tasks. As part of SENSIBLE, the overall objective of the PhD project is to use energy-aware approaches to build a stable, safe, reliable teleoperation system which takes into account time-varying human and environment dynamics and variable large time delays.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Quantitative Models for Maritime Logistics

Summary of PhD Program:

SDU has based on strategic sources and funding from Orients Fund initiated a cross disciplinary research and innovation project called the Maritime Research Platform (MRP) aimed at making the Danish and European maritime industry more sustainable and competitive in the global marketplace for offshore energy (wind, oil, gas, carbon capture, power-to-x) shipping and logistics services. The project consists of six work packages (WP) where WP2 is in scope for this PhD position. WP2 is intended to address business, operations and / or logistics challenges of the offshore energy maritime industry via contributing to development and validation of decision support tools which can guide commercial, operational, or technical business decisions in the short and long term for shipping companies, ports, service businesses, etc. based on a robust data foundation.

Summary of PhD Program:

This project aims to develop science-based educational tools to fill knowledge gaps in the public understanding of ecosystem functionality using the threatened dormouse as an example. The PhD student is expected to develop and investigate educational tools that illustrate how population dynamics are influenced not only by intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors including climate change, competition for food and nest sites, and habitat fragmentation. Investigation of these tools can focus on their potential to increase the learning experience and heighten the understanding of the climate change-driven effect on ecosystem functioning and biodiversity. We expect the PhD student to explore and analyze the outcome and value of science-based learning in out-of-school venues, like museums (in particular Naturama) and youth-driven forums, as well as interactive educational platforms with learning material and Social Media.
