1. Postdoctoral Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

We have an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research associate to join our team and apply cutting-edge statistical methodology to discover genes involved in fibrosis (scarring) of the lungs and other organs. Fibrosis is a common feature of multiple chronic diseases resulting in significant morbidity and mortality; our aim is to use genetic discovery to improve diagnosis and treatments for patients affected by fibrosis.

Application Deadline: 11 Oct 2022

2. Postdoctoral Positions in Structural Biology of DNA repair

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Associate with DNA repair, structural biology and biochemical expertise to work in the laboratory of Dr Amanda Chaplin. The role will be to investigate the structure and function of protein complexes involved in the DNA repair mechanism non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ), predominantly using cryo-EM. NHEJ is one of the key mechanisms that repairs double strand breaks in DNA. Without the repair of these breaks, they have the potential to lead to genomic instability, cell death and cancer. We have recently characterised several large multicomponent assemblies critical for this DNA repair process. The aim of this project will be to understand the deeper complexity and importance of this mechanism, particularly the regulation of formation of alternate assemblies, in order to allow for the development of future therapeutics.

3. Postdoctoral Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

The Gooptu group explores multi-scale disease biology from a structural perspective. We focus on diseases mediated by inflammation and fibrosis. We study the effects of disease mutations and environmental stimuli upon protein folding and conformational behaviour in serpinopathies (such as α1-antitrypsin deficiency), using X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, cryo-EM, and native MS. Subsequently, we dissect downstream mechanisms in cells using cell- and tissue-based approaches, relate these to disease biology, and undertake proof-of-principle studies into novel therapeutic strategies. We are also working from the tissue to the molecular level at increasing resolution to understand protein:protein interactions at the cell surface involved in potentiating inflammatory and fibrotic responses in the lung and other organs.

Application Deadline: 04 Nov 2022

4. Postdoctoral Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

In this role you will work within the Planetary Science Group’s NERC Grant, entitled ‘Investigating the Drivers of Geomagnetically Induced Currents’. You will work collaboratively and independently as part of the research team to achieve defined milestones, and produce high quality research as part of the wider programme. The primary research topic is the solar wind-magnetoshere-ionosphere interaction, focusing on determining the current systems responsible for geomagnetically induced currents. This will involve multi-point measurements from multiple types of instruments, including ground-based magnetometers and space-based instrumentation.

Application Deadline: 25 Oct 2022
