1. PhD Programs in Statistical Methods
Summary of PhD Positions:
The doctoral researcher will be placed in the Research Unit of Mathematical Sciences in the Faculty of Science and will be supervised by Prof. Mikko Sillanpää. The research work is done in close collaboration with our methodological collaborators. The research group of Prof Mikko J. Sillanpää is developing new computationally efficient and practical statistical methods and their applications in biology, medicine and other fields. Bayesian analysis and data analytic methods using hierarchical models and Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling methods are preferred in the group.

2. PhD Programs in Human-Centred Design and Digitalisation
Summary of PhD Positions:
You will join the European Union funded research and innovation project “Democracy meets arts: Critical Change Labs for building democratic cultures through creative and narrative practices”, to strengthen the university’s focus area of understanding humans in change. You are expected to conduct rigorous, nationally and internationally recognized research in Oulu, Finland. The position also includes some teaching duties.
Research topic is related to democracy education of children and young people, with an arts and technology approach. Research duties include reviewing relevant literature, collecting empirical data through working with stakeholders (schoolchildren, teachers, activity organizers, and other relevant actors), analyzing the data with help of theoretical frameworks, and writing academic conference and journal publications.
