Are you holding PhD degree and looking for Postdoctoral Fellowships? University of Helsinki, Finland invites multiple online application for Postdoctoral Fellowships in various research areas. Candidates interested in Postdoctoral Fellowships can check the details and may apply as soon as possible.
1. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The aim of the project is to determine the impact of light conditions – both natural and artificial – on the ability of organisms to cope with modern LED lights, and to evaluate the underlying mechanisms, using the glow-worm as the model species. Insights gained will be used to identify measures that can be taken to reduce negative effects of man-made lighting systems on the species and biodiversity in general.
Application Deadline: 21.7.2023
2. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project investigating the genetic factors underlying mechanisms of temperature-mediated plasticity in flowers in A. thaliana. The aim is to use take advantage of the natural variation in A. thaliana and combine molecular and genetic methods with field studies to understand the adaptive potential of flower size plasticity in plants. The specific research questions will be decided in accordance with the background and interests of the candidate.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The group is now seeking postdoctoral researcher, with strong computational and analytical skills, and an interest in implementing and applying machine learning and network-based approaches for AI-based drug repurposing and drug combination predictions, through analysing and integrating multi-omics data from pre-clinical and clinical resources. We will make use of publicly available resources for drug repurposing, such as Drug Repurposing Hub and clue.io, as well as in-house drug testing data from pre-clinical models.

4. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The capacity of Earth to regenerate its own resources is reducing due to the exponential growth of the human population. Simultaneously, climate change may cause productivity variations and diminish the total yield of agricultural production. Revolutionary strategies are urgently needed to produce and distribute enough sustainable and nutritious food. One emerging solution is the submerged cultivation of fungal mycelia, offering the potential to increase food productivity locally using fewer resources. Making food production from mycelia efficient and economically viable requires a better understanding and control of the bioprocess parameters and their connection to the fungal metabolism.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
CO-CARBON is an interdisciplinary project between University of Helsinki, Aalto University, Finnish Meteorological Institute, Häme University of Applied Sciences and University of Copenhagen. The project is funded by the Strategist Research Council working under the Research Council of Finland. The aim of CO-CARBON is to quantify carbon storage of urban green spaces at the same time when accounting for other socio-ecological factors, and support practical operations for the multiple planning and management needs of carbon-smart urban green infrastructure. The postdoctoral researcher will be coordinating the various project activities and will work as part of the project coordination team.
Application Deadline: 07.08.2023
6. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Research of circular economy group is just beginning and there is a lab space with plenty of freedom to tailor the workspace and ways of working, while this situation also brings extra responsibility in helping to establish a functioning lab for the students who will join the group. The postdoc is expected to participate in training of new master- and doctoral students, mentoring them in their lab work, and contributing to high level publications and grant applications. Postdoc needs to be the responsible person looking after labs own instrumentation (e.g. extruder) and training other to use it.

7. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, well-organized and detail oriented postdoctoral researcher to study the resistance mechanisms to immunotherapy in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients. The project is funded by the Academy of Finland. The selected applicant will have a contract with the University of Helsinki, however she/he will also need to be able to work in a newly established group at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio campus.
Application Deadline: 11.08.2023
8. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The project will study inverse problems for linear and non-linear hyperbolic and elliptic PDEs by applying analysis, differential geometry, microlocal analysis, and probabilistic methods. The project will also combine methods of machine learning, in particular neural networks, and manifold learning techniques, with the mathematical theory of inverse problems to invent new algorithms that are rigorously guaranteed to work. We are looking for post-doctoral researchers interested in working on inverse problems and their applications. We also welcome applications from postdoctoral researchers who have not earlier worked on the above topics but are interested in extending their expertise to new fields. Women and other underrepresented groups in the field of mathematics are strongly encouraged to apply.

9. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The goal of the ForVVard project (PI Adj. Prof. Henning Kirschenmann) is to analyze the all-hadronic final state of Vector Boson Scattering (VBS), a powerful probe into the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking and highly sensitive to new physics contributions. The selected candidate will join the effort of performing this analysis with the LHC Run-3 data, taking a leading role in one of the following areas: improving jet calibrations in the challenging forward region; applying cutting-edge machine learning techniques to enable particle-level jet energy calibrations, and to gain access to the polarization of wide jets from hadronic W/Z boson decays; analysis design for effective suppression of the QCD multijet background.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
We are seeking ambitious and visionary researchers to join our team as post-doctoral fellows, driving forward groundbreaking projects at the intersection of human genetics and economics. This unique opportunity offers access to an extensive dataset, one of the largest worldwide, comprising over 100,000 individuals, linking genetic information with comprehensive health and registry-based socio-economic outcomes, encompassing education, employment, and income. We are particularly interested in investigating the impact of traumatic personal or societal events (e.g., economic depressions) on health and socio-economic outcomes, while exploring how genetic predisposition can influence life trajectories.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
In the European glow-worm (Lampyris noctiluca), females emit a bioluminescent signal to attract flying males; they are thus likely to be sensitive to light pollution. We will integrate behavioural, physiological and genetic research to assess their responses to LEDs along three gradients: 1) a latitudinal gradient to evaluate the impact of natural light conditions, 2) an urbanisation gradient to evaluate the impact of earlier exposure to artificial light, and 3) a temporal gradient to evaluate the impact of the time populations have been exposed to artificial light. We will assess both behavioural and physiological responses to artificial light in experimental work, and determine the genetic underpinnings of the responses by screening for signs of selection across the genome.
