2. Fully Funded PhD Position in marine ecology and evolutionary biology

Summary of PhD Program:

Species introductions are a pervasive challenge for native species, communities and ecosystems. Many introductions turn into successful invasions, with changes in biotic interactions and consequent ecological and evolutionary effects on native communities. Furthermore, invasions may potentially alter fundamental ecosystem functions. We will focus on three fundamental knowledge gaps in invasion science: (1) Evolutionary change within the native community as a response to the invasion; (2) the role of cascading ecological effects of an invasion in the food web and on ecosystem functioning; (3) rise of evolutionary cascades where adaptive evolution of traits in one species at a higher trophic level modify the selective environment and lead to evolutionary changes in another species at a lower trophic level.
