1. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Biochar is produced from biomass in a process called pyrolysis, and the carbon it contains remains stable in the soil for hundreds of years. Biochar soil amendment is one of the few technologies that can sequester carbon in large quantities. However, there are also a range of other potential benefits of biochar: 1) production of renewable energy, 2) biochar can reduce emissions of the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O) and may reduce nitrate leaching, and 3) biochar can improve soil physical properties, helping to increase crop productivity and reduce nutrient losses and pesticide leaching.

4. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
We invite highly qualified, thorough and motivated applicants to apply for the position. The postdoc will engage in a collaboration that aims to study the intra- and intergenerational health and labour market implications and costs of divorce among families in Denmark. The postdoc will develop novel statistical methods and apply these to register and RCT data to investigate heterogeneity in effects of divorces and investigate whether subgroups are especially adversely affected by divorce. Specifically, the project aims to develop methods for inference on key features of the heterogeneous effects, to estimate characteristics and differences of the most and least impacted groups, and to data-adaptively identify key drivers of treatment effect heterogeneity. The successful candidate will be responsible for methods development, designing proof of concept simulation studies and carrying out the data analyses. The Postdoc is encouraged and expected to drive the ideas and solutions within these topics.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The larger project develops and tests a new theory of basic cognitive selection mechanisms by combining methods and perspectives from experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, mathematical modelling, and philosophy. The core idea is that selection in cognition may be understood as a biased competition between representations in a stochastic race (Grünbaum, Oren, & Kyllingsbæk, 2021). In a series of experiments, we have consistently shown that tasks-sets are competing biased by their importance and that this selection process is severely capacity limited. We will extend our new experimental procedures and mathematical models to the study of selection in planning and problem-solving. If our conjecture is true, higher-order cognitive processes like task selection, planning, and problem-solving depend on the same type of selection.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The postdoc should be a philosopher with expertise in philosophy of science or philosophy of psychology broadly conceived (incl. relevant epistemology, confirmation theory, philosophy of statistics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of the cognitive sciences). During the employment, the candidate is expected to engage with issues concerning how best to understand the relationship between theorising, the prior probability of the experimental hypothesis, and low replication rates of experimental findings. To what extent do low rates of replication of experimental findings depend on ambiguous and poorly formalized theories? Relying on Bayesian statistics and confirmation theory, is it possible to increase replication rates of experiments by developing strong mathematical theories of cognitive processes?

Biomolecular self-assembly is a key process in physics and chemistry and rules the correct functioning of living systems. In addition, many of the most prevalent human neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimers and Parkinsons, are characterised by the presence of so-called amyloid aggregates in the brain, which are the result of protein self-assembly. The project aims to develop theoretical models for the advanced and quantitative evaluation of experimental data, both related to protein self-assembly and phase separation. The project is funded by the Villum Fonden to Associate Professor Vito Foderà.

This research area focuses on the contemporary and historical role of research-led museums like Medical Museion. How do they now position themselves between the ‘ivory tower’ of academic research and the public realm of a cultural venue? How has that role evolved; and how can such an institution today be most effective at involving and listening to interest groups and the general public, as well as disseminating scientific knowledge and its social/cultural contexts? And how is this sort of work done similarly, but differently in different international contexts.
