4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Chemical-Spatial differentiable Digital Twin for Atomic
Summary of PhD Program:
Atomic scale design of catalysts is typically done by searching the chemical composition space. Finding new ways for fast explorations of the structural and compositional phase space fast can accelerate discovery of new catalysts for Power-to-X tenfold. Traditional workflow-based high throughput methods are often slow in traversing the chemical space, as one must search for the low energy atomic structures for all new compositions and evaluate the properties. In this PhD project, we will take a digital twin approach by developing generative deep learning models for crystal graphs that follow the symmetry groups associated with crystals structure and learns to probabilistically generate new low-energy structures and compositions.

24. 02 Fully Funded PhD Position in Machine Learning
Summary of PhD Program:
In the coming years, machine learning is expected to revolutionize molecular discovery and design. The traditional cycle of screening, simulation, and synthesis will be enhanced by automated, data driven, high-throughput screening, capable of predicting the function of novel compounds. Deep neural networks are the pivotal machine learning technology that enables these advancements. In particular, the recently developed graph convolutional neural networks show outstanding results. A central scientific challenge is to search the vast space of potential molecules, and the state-of-the-art is uncertainty guided search; however, current neural networks lack precise and calibrated uncertainty estimates. Our goal is to create novel methods for uncertainty quantification in graph neural networks, for example by advancing techniques such as variational approximation, ensembles, Monte Carlo sampling, and post-calibration.

25. Fully Funded PhD Position in Single Cell Bioinformatics
Summary of PhD Program:
Crosstalk between immune cells and environmental signals from our diet and intestinal bacteria is essential for intestinal health. Alterations in this crosstalk can rewire immune cell function, contributing to the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). There are few effective therapies for IBD and many IBD patients do not respond to therapy or loose therapeutic responses over time, highlighting the need for new directions and approaches to disease management and treatment. Intestinal mesenchymal stromal cells (iMSC) represent a diverse population of tissue resident non-immune cells that lie in immediate proximity to intestinal immune cells. Here we will assess the importance of iMSC-immune cell interactions in intestinal homeostasis and the initiation and maintenance of IBD.

We see initial evidence that stress and other mental helth problems are contagious among individuals. However, we have not fully understood yet, how and when stress is contagious between people or how it can be prevented.
