Summary of PhD Program:
The primary task of the successful candidate is to devote her or his time to write a doctoral thesis in Logic and the completion of obligatory course work. He or she may, however, also undertake a limited amount of teaching, administration or research not directly connected to the dissertation topic. Such duties extend the position accordingly.
The successful candidate is also expected to participate in the activities of the Logic Group, such as seminars and workshops. He or she is expected to carry out the vast majority of the research in Gothenburg and to participate in a regular and consistent manner in the department’s other relevant research activities. The working language within the department is English. In addition to salary, there will be funds available for travel and shorter visits to other universities and research institutes.

Summary of PhD Program:
The purpose of undertaking doctoral studies is to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for conducting independent research within the field of Environmental Social Science. The doctoral studies comprise one year of coursework and three years of research, culminating in the production of a dissertation that makes a significant and original contribution to the research field. The knowledge and skills that are acquired during the studies should be applicable to postdoctoral research or other professional work. The position is salaried and covers four years (full-time equivalent, fixed term), beginning in August 2023. 5. Fully Funded PhD Position in C. elegans Membrane Homeostasis
Summary of PhD Program:
The recruited PhD student will be expected to carry out semi-independent research concerning the molecular mechanisms contributing to membrane homeostasis and/or fat management mostly using primarily C. elegans models. The student will also be expected to participate in group meetings, present research in departmental seminars and conferences, and to publish articles based on own research. Research on how music and/or sound is implicated in the rhetoric and spread of illiberal discourse promises to provide a deeper understanding of contemporary illiberal populism and the aesthetic, cultural and audiovisual resources it draws on.

Summary of PhD Program:
Climate change is expected to cause severe climate stress on tree vegetation in northern Europe, especially by heat waves, drought, and flooding. Increased climate stress may lead to reduced growth and increased mortality, which in turn risks the many ecosystem services delivered by trees. Hence, it is important to plant tree species in forests and cities that can survive and thrive in the challenging growing conditions of the future climate.
The overall aim of this PhD-thesis project is to identify the long-term impacts of climatic stress (heat, drought, and flooding) on tree growth and vitality in forests and urban environments in SW-Sweden. To achieve this aim, the PhD-student will use a process-based ecosystem model and evaluate it against experimental data. The PhD-position is part of two projects, one studying climate-trees feedbacks in urban habitats in Gothenburg city (Sustainable trees to promote sustainable cities in a changing climate) and the other in an experimental forest in SW-Sweden (Impacts of several years consecutive summer droughts on forest-climate feedbacks).

9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Medical Science
Summary of PhD Program:
The methodology developed during our previous pit lake studies has been applied in a hazard assessment of an oil shale deposit in Sweden, the Kvarntorp pile. These findings need to be followed-up regarding transfer to nearby areas and the impact of chemical speciation. In Sweden, there are several other sites with enhanced abundance of NORM due to former industrial activities. In order to investigate the radiological status of these, quality assured methods for hazard assessment need to be established.
It is estimated that during the years 2007-2008 there were about 250 000 detached houses and 75 000 apartments having radon concentrations exceeding the reference level 200 Bq/m3; in 2015 it was estimated that measurements of indoor radon concentration have been performed in about 30 % of the detached houses. The risk for children has not been studied directly but merely by epidemiological studies. We have developed a mathematical model for calculation of radiation dose in various exposure situations. Since the model accounts for external as well as internal exposure, estimation of doses from inhalation of radon is possible with this model.

Furthermore, are new concepts within photophysical chemistry derived, and physical-organic chemistry methodologies are used to build materials for tomorrow.
