Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow with a background in cognitive neuroscience and an interest in studying human cognition using intracranial recordings. The fellow will work closely with Dr. Fady Girgis, MD in the division of neurosurgery and Dr. Julia Kam, PhD in the department of psychology. This is a collaborative environment within the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. The fellow will work in an interdisciplinary environment with a team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, and computer scientists on several funded projects that aim to discover the neurophysiological basis of various cognitive constructs, using intracranial EEG, single unit recordings, machine learning and potentially stimulation approaches. Their primary role will involve executing the funded projects (i.e. acquisition of intracranial EEG and single-unit recordings from surgical patients, analysis of intracranial neurophysiology data, development of analytic tools, scientific dissemination). With access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities and academic resources at the Cumming School of Medicine, the Psychology department, and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, the fellow will also have the opportunity to pursue collaborative and self-directed projects beyond the funded research. They will also be strongly encouraged to apply for national/international awards.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will pursue a research project in life cycle assessment (LCA) of petrochemical feedstocks production from refining operations. This Full-Time Fixed Term position is for 12 months based on the length of the grant with the possibility of extension. 5. Post Doctoral Scholar, Geoscience, Faculty of Science

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

Research will be carried out with the overall aim of characterizing the geomechanical behavior of fractured rock mass during hydraulic fracturing. The postdoctoral researcher should have a geoscience background with experience in petroleum geology, sedimentary rock descriptions, supplemented by rock mechanics and fracture characterization of outcrops or cores. Dr. Gregory Cairncross and Dr. Michael Blough are recruiting a postdoctoral associate with interests in defective mitosis, the molecular origins of cancer, and growth signaling. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a dynamic research group studying the nature, evolution, and treatment of brain tumours in adults and children. The successful candidate will work closely with wet lab scientists to decipher how a ubiquitous growth factor abundant in the mammalian brain transforms neural progenitor cells to produce a histological and molecular replica of human glioblastoma with its 7+/10- diagnostic signature. Using this model of human GBM as a starting point, the successful candidate will have the freedom and opportunity to develop her/his own lines of inquiry supported by state-of-the-art facilities for animal and human genome research aided by a comprehensive cell and tissue bank. The long term goal of the Cairncross lab is to understand and prevent human glioblastoma.

Successful candidates will be recent PhD graduates who are interested in making fundamental discoveries in tumor evolution and immune response that can lead to translational impact in aggressive and largely incurable cancers. Research approaches in our team include computational analyses of tumor multi-omic profiles at bulk and single cell level, with spatial and temporal resolution within patient samples. We are interested in how tumor cells cooperate with non-neoplastic cells of the microenvironment to respond to selective pressures in general, and in particular to standard therapy regimes. The focus of the candidate will be on establishing methods to integrate long-read sequencing data into our current workflows for genome and transcriptome analyses.
