Summary of PhD Program:

You will work on developing model cell membranes and studying their interactions with lipid vesicles. The membranes, particles and their interactions will be characterised using microscopy and lab-based nanoparticle characterisation tools as well as neutron and X-ray scattering techniques. The goal of the project is to uncover the mechanisms of interactions of model cell membranes with vesicles and other lipid-based nanoparticles with varying morphology and chemical composition, to shed light on their mechanisms of interaction and cargo delivery.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Quantum thermodynamics of electronic devices

Summary of PhD Program:

The position – desired starting date in the first half of 2024 – will be placed in the theory division of the department for Microtechnology and Nanoscience at Chalmers, where diverse research from quantum transport, quantum information, and quantum materials to quantum thermodynamics is carried out. In the CODEc group, we conduct interdisciplinary research into cancer genomics and evolution. We develop novel mathematical and bioinformatic methods to uncover the key factors behind cancer/disease evolution from next generation sequencing data. In particular, we focus on how interactions with the immune system and therapies influence the development of cancers. We want to create methods that provide insight on cancer evolution from already existing and sub-optimal sequencing data, so that improved personalised clinical decisions can be made at no additional cost.

Summary of PhD Program:

We are looking for a PhD student to work on electronic structure modeling of polarons in materials for solar devices. The undeniable heart of a solar device is a specifically selected and engineered semiconductor. It serves as a photoabsorber, and converts solar photons to free electrons. Whenever we find a new material for this purpose, which improves on stability, sustainability, or efficiency, it often heralds a technological shift. In the field of solar cells the last such transition was brought on by halide perovskites, which are heavily researched for a number of applications. In the field of photoelectrochemical solar-to-fuel conversion, for instance through water splitting, complex metal oxides are the most promising.

Summary of PhD Program:

We will recruit one doctoral students in mathematics to work under the supervision of Irina Pettersson and Tobias Gebäck in the project concerning mathematical models and numerical methods for applications in electrophysiology. This branch of physiology studies the electrical properties of biological cells and tissues. The study will in particular employ asymptotic analysis and homogenization techniques in order to derive macroscopic models for the electric potential in biological tissues, as well as numerical solutions of these problems.

Circuit quantum electrodynamics presents promising paths to building a quantum computer using superconducting circuits.
