3. Fully Funded PhD Position in How stable is the Greenland ice sheet? A view from the past

Summary of PhD Program:

Using advanced uncertainty quantification, this project will drive state-of-the-art ice sheet models with climate output from the most detailed and complex climate models to comprehensively assess when and how Greenland tipping events are triggered. The simulations will be combined with records of Greenland ice sheet conditions during past interglacials, testing periods when the ice underwent pronounced deglaciation and contrasting these with periods when we know the ice sheet was relatively stable.

Summary of PhD Program:

In this project, we will harness a high-throughput approach to discover covalent probes that target the conserved lysine in protein kinases. The student will develop plate-based chemistry in which pairs of building blocks will be combined to yield diverse probe sets. The probe sets will be exploited to discover novel covalent modifiers of specific protein kinases. The student will harness a chemical proteomic approach to profile the proteome-wide reactivity of the discovered probes; and exploit biochemical and structural biology approaches to characterise their mechanism of action.

Fully Funded PhD Position in Integrated experimental system for assessing innovations in hip replacements

Over three million people in the UK are living with hip osteoarthritis. While hip replacement surgery is a successful intervention, long-term durability is not guaranteed. 12. Fully Funded PhD Position in Where to cross over? Interrogating meiotic crossover positioning via chromosome engineering

Summary of PhD Program:

During sexual reproduction, parental chromosomes swap DNA segments in a process called crossover, which is a key driver for evolution and crop breeding. Summary of PhD Program:

This project aims to investigate the structure-function relationships of commonly used surfactants in wash-off skin care formulations. These are typically tested by measuring the ability to solubilize various biological components and to some extent the behaviour can be related to the size and charge of the surfactant micelles, as well as the critical micelle concentration. However, for mixtures of classic and novel surfactants these relationships are sometimes far from clear and a more thorough analysis of micelle nanostructure is needed.
