Anton lab in the Neuroscience Center at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine (https://www.antonlab.org) is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral fellows interested in investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of cerebral cortical circuit development and neurodevelopmental disorders (see Developmental Cell 2020, doi.org/10.1016/j.devcel.2019.11.005; Neuron, 2022, DOI: 10.1016/j.neuron.2022.01.034). Opportunities are available to investigate the molecular mechanisms of neural circuit development and function in mammalian brain and in neurodevelopmental disorders using advanced multi-modal methods, including, but not limited, to circuit mapping, chemogenetic and optogenetic manipulation of signaling pathways, CRISPR-Cas9 based genome editing, single cell transcriptomics, brain organoids, and human cortical connectomics. The Department of Earth, Marine and Environmental Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a project on hydrodynamics of rocky coasts, funded by the Office of Naval Research. These enzymes are disrupted in countless disease processes, including Alzheimer’s disease. Using innovative approaches, such as Time-Resolved Cryo-EM, we explore how ubiquitin ligases recruit substrates and build a proteasome degradation signal (e.g., Bodrug et al., NSMB, in press; Welsh*, Bolhuis* et al., EMBO J 2022; Martinez-Chacin et al., NSMB 2020). These principles are used to understand targeted protein degradation, an emerging method to eliminate unwanted proteins for therapeutic purposes.

We are seeking research technicians and highly motivated, independent, and dynamic postdoctoral research fellows to undertake studies at the UNC HIV Cure Center, specifically in a project seeking to understand HIV persistence and eradication strategies for the cure of HIV. The UNC HIV Cure Center is a multi-disciplinary research center with various current translational studies. Our laboratory is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of HIV latency and persistent HIV infection-associated complications. We seek to discover new anti-HIV latency therapeutic targets that will ultimately lead to the eradication of HIV, including kick and kill, direct killing, and deep latency. Various HIV latency models will be used in these studies, including in vitro and ex vivo cellular models of latency and ART-suppressed rhesus macaque models of latency. Tissues (CNS and peripheral compartments) isolated from people with HIV on ART, SIV/rhesus macaques, and HIV/hu-mice will also be studied.

Research activities as part of this position will involve engineering cell derived hydrogels to induce vascular morphogenesis.
