12. Fully Funded PhD Position in remote sensing using satellite communication networks
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a PhD student to participate in the development of new remote sensing capabilities for future 6G communication systems. These communication systems will integrate terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks where communication signals will be linked via satellites. A portion of the communication signals will be reflected from the Earth’s surface and can be received by satellites in the same network. Analysis of reflected signals provide information about the Earth’s surface, which allows monitoring of the environment.

13. Fully Funded PhD Position in Constitutive Modelling of Rate-Effects in Sensitive Clays
Summary of PhD Program:
The aim is to unravel the anthropogenic and natural processes, and their relative importance, for triggering shallow landslides in sensitive clays. The focus will be on developing computational models that will quantify the mechanisms, precursors and the time to failure. This will be achieved by combining advanced experimental probing with the development of constitutive models that capture the rate-dependent (creep and porewater pressure) response of sensitive clays. Thus, we will be able to understand and quantify the triggers and precursors for shallow slides in sensitive clays as a function of time (>100 years).

14. Fully Funded PhD Position in AI-assisted antibiotic research
Summary of PhD Program:
In a joint project, two PhD students will explore newly discovered peptides, so-called MAPPs (mycolic acid layer-permeabilizing peptides). These peptides are able to inactivate the outer layer of mycobacteria, the causative agents of life-threatening diseases like tuberculosis and leprosy. This layer, which consists of mycolic acids (hence called mycolic acid layer), makes mycobacteria extremely impermeable to drugs, precluding the use of the majority of antibiotics.

17. Fully Funded PhD Position in Signal processing for airborne multi-static radar systems
Summary of PhD Program:
Signal processing for radar systems is in the intersection of physical modeling, multidimensional statistics, and linear algebra. Future radar systems will include a network of geometrically separate nodes where some nodes are active (they send out radio waves) and others are passive (listen to the radio waves) or nodes that are both active and passive. The goal of a radar system is to sense the environment and detect and track all interesting objects by operating the passive and active nodes in an efficient way.
