Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Post-Doc Trainee will work with the UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery (https://www.med.unc.edu/itr/) which has two overarching goals. The first goal is increase understanding of how adverse posttraumatic neuropsychiatric sequelae (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, pain, depression, and other somatic symptoms) develop after traumatic stress exposure (e.g., motor vehicle collision, military deployment, sexual assault). The second goal is to use this knowledge to develop and test interventions that prevent these outcomes. Our primary strategy to achieve these goals is to recruit and retain outstanding, talented, self-motivated staff, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty who are passionate about improving the lives of individuals who have experienced trauma. The Institute for Trauma Recovery is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. This individual will work under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Sam McLean, to develop and conduct an individually-tailored program of activities that advance the work of the institute and the career development of the individual.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Phanstiel lab at UNC (http://phanstiel-lab.med.unc.edu/) has an open position for a computational postdoc to study the genetics of human disease. The successful candidate will analyze response QTLs (expression QTLs, splicing QTLs, chromatin accessibility QTLs, etc) as well as corresponding genomic data (Hi-C, CUT&RUN, phosphoproteomics, etc) in primary human cells to identify novel human disease risk variants and genes. They will also co-lead projects using massively parallel reporter assays (MPRA) to quantify the impacts of disease-related genetic variants. Finally, they will interact with nearby collaborators to plan and analyze functional follow-up experiments using CRISPR-based techniques applied to primary human cells grown in an ex vivo system. Hundreds of data sets have already been collected and are ready to be analyzed. Prior experience with some human genetic/genomic data sets (e.g. GWAS, QTL, Hi-C, ATAC, RNA-seq, etc) is preferred but not required.

12. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoc that fills this role will be examining the mechanism of axon pruning in models of neurons as well es examining apoptosis regulation in induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. This work involves isolating sympathetic neurons from neonatal mice, culturing them in microfluidic chambers, and probing the molecular pathways of axon degeneration using molecular and cell biological approaches. For the project on stem cells, this would require working with iPS cells and examining apoptosis regulation in the undifferentiated and neuronally differentiated cells.
