1. Postdoctoral Position in law

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Generation AI project investigates children’s rights in the field of artificial intelligence. The research will utilise legal-dogmatic methods to – among other things – problematise the legal requirements of technology and identify the risks of AI for children’s rights from a protection and participation perspective. The legal framework will be compared with children’s attitudes and perceptions of their rights in relation to data use and algorithmic manipulation. The project will provide recommendations to governments, guardians and educators (e.g. schools) on how they can meet their obligations regarding AI and children’s rights.

3. 02 Postdoctoral Position in Medical Systems Biology group

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Our research group is part of the Academy of Finland’s Centre of Excellence in Tumour Genetics Research. The laboratory focuses on the study of transcriptional control of cell growth, using functional genomics and systems biology. Current lines of work include high-throughput determination of binding sites and binding specificities of human transcription factors, using this information to identify regulatory elements that control cell growth during normal development or in cancer.

Applicants with a doctoral degree and strong background in molecular biology/ bioinformatics who are interested in working in an inter-disciplinary environment are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicant must be able to work independently and have good communication skills in English.

Application Deadline: 30.1.2023

4. Postdoctoral Position in Evolutionary Genomics, Speciation and Hybridization

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The group SpecIAnt is an established, Academy of Finland funded research group at the Organismal and Evolutionary Biology Research Programme. Combining genomics, modeling and fieldwork experiments, our team investigates the speciation process and outcomes of hybridization using wood ants as a model system. Previously, we have discovered widespread hybridization between wood ant species in Southern Finland and documented sex specific and environment dependent hybrid breakdown in natural populations. Recently, we have shown rapid and predictable genome evolution driven in part by selection in three hybrid populations.

5. Postdoctoral Position in Muscle Biochemistry

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher, who will be part of a multidisciplinary research team working on a muscle defect in broiler chickens. The position in the project Broiler Wooden Breast myopathy: Underlying mechanisms, and maternal nutrition for alleviation. The project is funded by Academy of Finland. This project studies the structure and function of the breast muscle at various bird ages. Additionally, in growth experiments the aim is to study whether the feeding of broiler breeders or exercise of the broilers influence wooden breast prevalence.

7. 04 Postdoctoral Position in Marine Science

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Tvärminne Zoological Station is a part of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland. It serves as a centre for a large variety of high-quality biological research, carries out environmental monitoring, and offers facilities for visiting scientists, field courses and seminars. The area is characterized by high variation in biotopes and species richness. The station was founded in 1902 and provides good background data for studying long-term environmental changes. The station also serves as the national hub for the recently established Centre for Coastal Ecosystem and Climate Change Research (CoastClim), which investigates the links between coastal biodiversity, carbon cycling, and climate feedback (see).

8. Postdoctoral Position in cross species transmission and pathogenesis of kolmiovirids

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position relates to Sigrid Jusélius Foundation and Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation grants to Jussi Hepojoki. The grants aim to unravel the pathogenic potential kolmiovirids (most known representatives are members of the genus Deltavirus), the association of kolmiovirid infection to human and animal disease, the potential of kolmiovirids to cross species barrier, and their interplay between the helper virus(es). As a member of the research team, you will participate in experiment design, laboratory work (including e.g. molecular biology, virology, imaging, NGS), as well as reporting the results in peer-reviewed journals and by presenting at scientific conferences.
