1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Integrated 2D Optical Phased Array for Solid-State Beam Steering

Summary of PhD Program:

Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) is a 3D sensing technology based on laser light to measure the distance between the object and the sensor that holds great promise for allowing autonomous machines to see and navigate the world with very high precision. Typically, LiDAR designs comprise a multitude of moving parts (e.g., an assembly of lasers, optics, electronics, and detectors) on a mechanically rotating stage. The need to assemble and align all these parts leads to high costs and relatively low manufacturing volumes, while the wear and tear on the mechanical components limits long-term reliability, and all these factors have been hindering a wide adoption of this technology.

Fully Funded PhD Position in Individualization of Binaural Processing in Hearing-Aid and Cochlear-Implant Users

Summary of PhD Program:

Understanding speech in situations with multiple spatially distributed noise sources and sound source localization in everyday life poses challenges for users of hearing instruments, including both hearing aids (HA) and cochlear implants (CI). For bimodal and bilateral CI recipients, a dedicated binaural processing scheme that combines microphone signals from the left and right has been proposed. Studies have shown that for bilateral CI users, bilateral severe-to-profound HA users, and bimodal users, localization accuracy and spatial release from masking can be improved. Recently, a new optimization criterion for this algorithm has been employed to provide benefits for mild-to-moderate HA users as well.

Summary of PhD Program:

Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) is a 1-3D sensing technology that can be used for remote sensing of e.g. distance, velocity or chemical composition of a gas or solid. Typically, LiDAR designs comprise a multitude of moving parts (e.g., an assembly of lasers, optics, electronics, and detectors) on a mechanically rotating stage. 18. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computer Vision with Deep Learning for Human-Machine Collaboration

Summary of PhD Program:

Learning visual recognition models requires huge amounts of data, especially when relying on data-hungry deep neural networks. These data need to be manually and passively annotated by humans. This labeling procedure is one of the most important steps in a machine learning pipeline and is tedious, expensive, and susceptible to noise leading to erroneous labels. We aim to establish a deeper human-machine collaboration for all stages of the learning pipeline via multimodal labeling and learning. The goal of this project is to leverage information from different modalities that naturally occur near web images to assist the image annotation. You will develop state-of-the-art multimodal models for self-supervision with human-in-the-loop text supervision. This PhD project will be supervised by Associate Professor (DTU).
