5. Fully Funded PhD Position in bio-electrochemistry

Summary of PhD Program:

The overall goal of this PhD is the development of novel aptamer-based electrochemical biosensing strategies that will pave the way to the construction of affordable, robust, and portable detection platforms. Due to the integration of biorecognition elements, such as aptamers, electrochemical biosensors are ideally suited for the selective determination of a wide variety of targets. Crucial in developing such biosensing strategies is the characterization of the aptamers and their interaction with the target molecules via various bioanalytical technologies.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in analytical toxicology and wastewater-based epidemiology

Summary of PhD Program:

You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of analytical toxicology and wastewater-based epidemiology. The project aims to provide unprecedented insights into the behavior of xenobiotics in influent wastewater, focusing on the distribution between the liquid and solid phase of influent wastewater. To achieve this, innovative analytical workflows will be developed to quantify three model chemicals (THC-COOH, fluoxetine, methadone) and modeling experiments will assess interfacial equilibrium dynamics and partitioning of these compounds between the liquid and solid phase of influent wastewater under different conditions.

Application Deadline: 1st April 2025

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Molecular and Computational Neurogenomics

Summary of PhD Program:

The overarching goal of this proposal is to understand why and how dysregulation of omnipresent and constantly expressed ARS proteins leads to dying-back neurodegeneration and affects specifically the peripheral neurons (PNs). This neuronal population contains the most polarized cells in our body and their sophisticated morphology and function render them highly susceptible to degeneration. The preliminary data generated in-house as well as the available public data suggest mechanisms involving genetic, epigenetic and chromatin organisation factors governing the cell-type specific response to ARS mutations.
