1. Postdoctoral Position in Skin Microbiome and Innate Immunity

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral training position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tamia A. Harris-Tryon MD, PhD, in the Department of Dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Harris-Tryon Laboratory bridges the fields of immunology, microbiology, and metabolism and focuses on the interface between the skin surface and the community of microbes that colonize the skin niche. Our research aims to decipher mechanisms that the skin uses to protect the host from bacterial infection and develop novel therapeutic targets for inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and hidradenitis suppurativa. We make use of unique model systems including germ free mice. These mice are derived through in vitro fertilization into an entirely sterile environment and live without exposure to microbes. This allows our group to explore how specific bacteria and bacterial products impact skin immunity.

2. Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Biology and Stem Cell Biology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral training position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Lu Q. Le, in the Department of Dermatology and Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center to study how genetic and microenvironmental factors interplay to regulate tumorigenesis. Our laboratory has several exciting projects: We dissect the cellular and molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis from a developmental perspective using Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), a common tumor predisposition human genetic disorder, as a model. While working on neurofibromatosis, our research group serendipitously uncovered the identity of follicular epithelial cells that directly give rise to hair and mechanisms that cause hair to turn gray – findings that led to our second focus to identify possible treatments for balding and hair graying associated with aging.
