7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Deep Learning Theory and Differential Geometry

Summary of PhD Program:

As our new PhD Student, your task will be to study modern deep learning approaches and develop a theoretical understanding based on differential geometry. In particular, deep neural networks perform surprisingly well on new unseen data, which is known as generalization. However, previous machine learning theory cannot fully explain this behavior and thus new approaches have emerged. A promising explanation is that during the training phase, the models are implicitly regularized which is attributed to the properties of the optimization technique. Intuitively, an example is that stochastic optimizers tend to find flatter minima in the complex loss landscape which is supposed to correlate with generalization. The behavior of the neural network also depends on the architectural choices and the additional training techniques applied during the learning phase. The goal of this project is to approach these concepts using differential geometry, providing a new theoretical framework and developing practical methodologies accordingly.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Amine Carry-over and Impurity Effects on Localised Corrosion – MSCA Doctoral Programme

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD project (DCR4) investigates impurities in the pure CO2 stream produced from CO2 capture. Small impurities will be carried into the transportation system, and it will pose a safety and lifetime estimation risk to the system. The impurities are very corrosive, and they originate from the gas treatment system. This could be water content, amine impurities, nitrosamines, residual gas content like NOx, SOx, CO, NH3 and similar types of traces. To some extend these components will tend to react and produce even more corrosive components.

13. Fully Funded PhD Position in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry

Summary of PhD Program:

Within this field, you will join a team and focus on the development of a new technology for protection of the salivary glands during PSMA-targeted radionuclide therapy. These drugs, such as Novartis’ recently approved Pluvicto for prostate cancer, may destroy the salivary glands because these tissues also express PSMA. This can cause severe xerostomia (dry mouth) and is a major treatment-limiting complication in some patients. In this project, we will develop a new preventive intervention to protect the salivary glands and decrease the occurrence of this debilitating side effect. As our tools, we will use cutting-edge click-chemistry, and radiochemical techniques, as well as biocompatible polymers and biomaterials. The technology will be tested in relevant animal models. Your tasks will be to carry out organic synthesis of precursor materials, along with radiolabeling procedures involving advanced radionuclides, especially for PET imaging. In addition, you will be involved in animal testing of the interventions in rodents and larger animals.

14. Fully Funded PhD Position in Marine Fish Ecology and Citizen Science

Summary of PhD Program:

The purpose of this Phd project is to explore and enhance the ecological functions and processes within degraded marine habitats, with a primary focus on the restoration and resilience of coastal ecosystems. We aim to investigate the re-colonization dynamics of fish communities in relation to seagrass transplantation efforts and to advance the concept of marine rewilding, particularly emphasizing the significant role of top predators. A crucial part is the active involvement and collaboration with the public, particularly through volunteer engagement and Citizen Science (e.g. key fisher sampling and the Fangstjournalen project) and conducting fieldwork around Denmark as part of existing nature restoration initiatives. The project is a collaboration between DTU Aqua, SDU, and SLU Aqua, uniting a diverse range of research expertise and resources, including access to newly transplanted seagrass meadows and the integration of a diverse suite of methodologies for data collection.
